its not a city - its a national rate number. it could be anything - thousands of businesses use dialing codes 0870 - then seven numbers

087 Country Code

yep. if sum1's number is 01706 641331 (example)

to dial from outside UK u use ur +44 or 0044

so it is +441706641331
or 00441706641331

noticin you omit the first zero. so take away the country code and add a zero. you get ur 0870.

0870 is national rate. so if you get free landline calls (like moi) you still have 2 pay for the call which they earn money on (cheeky gits)

try www.saynoto0870.com

you can get a 01/02 number to dial instead of the 0870

087x numbers are charged at a so-called National rate and are non-geographical and as such, are used by businesses on the grounds that it makes no difference from where you are calling (within the UK).
Just for the benefit of those who have said that 'ordinary' numbers begin with 01, please note that they can also begin with 02 as well. 070 numbers are expensive "keep forever"/hospital patient (bedside) numbers, all other 07x numbers are mobiles. 0500 and 0800 are free, 084x are non-geographical but charged at 'local' rates (marketed as "Lo-Call"), and 09x are all premium rate lines and charges vary, usually between 10p and £1.50p per minute. Hope this answers a few questions for you all. (E.O.E.!)

Area codes start with 01 or +441
The number you have is from a standard rate number.

I don't think it belongs to any particular area. It is the prefix to numbers charged at a particular rate, rather like 0800 is the freephone prefix.
