No, your files such as Word documents, e-mails, music, pictures etc will not be erased unless for some reason you've saved them in the Windows directory.
However, a reinstallation can sometimes go wrong forcing you to reformat your hard-drive so it's a good idea to make a back up of all your files before you start.

Unless Windows 98 is no longer supported by Microsoft Windows 98 SE should be a free upgrade. There's nothing different (that has to do with look and feel) between the two versions. Only difference is Windows 98 SE plugs in the security holes that hackers were able to find in Windows 98. But even then hackers were able to find holes in Windows 98 SE. I don't think hackers will ever leave Microsoft alone. They're always picking on them as the majority of the world uses 1 version or another of the Windows operating system. If you go about it that way then no you won't lose any data on your hard drive.

"If it aint broke, don't fix it". But, if I am correct it won't matter which one you upgrade from, but the upgrade cd will ask for a retail non upgrade CD to upgrade. Just as long as you upgrade while Windows 98 is running. Make sure you have SE's product key handy too.

i think of the least complicated way is to take the HDD out of the previous pc and make it the D: power in the recent one. I did that and it supplies acontinual you ought to use as a returned up later as quickly as you're constructive you have each and all of the information transferred on your C: power. you would be able to compress your C; power to you D: power on a time table and continuously have a returned up too. in basic terms verify that the oldcontinual is IDE - this is an previous pc - i think of it somewhat is going to be - yet verify. Xp had wizards to circulate settings and your address e book and stuff so use those. abode windows 3 courses - do no longer hardship - you may attempt them - yet unlikely to paintings under XP.

No, only Windows (your operating system) will be upgraded. Your files in your folders will remain on disk.
I hope you are keeping backups of your files in any event. Flashdrives are great for backups and the cost is way down now.

If by upgrade you mean using the UPGRADE format of the installation, then no.
If it says NEW or anything you will lose it. But I think you were talking about the UPGRADE thing so I see no problem.

Doing a "upgrade only" you will not lose any data, the setup only targets the windows operating system files. It's only if you do a new, (clean) installation that you will lose your files.
