That sounds like either a severe case of dandruff/dry skin or possbily some kind of fungal or bacerial infection. If it wasnt so bad I would recommend using special shampoo that you can buy at the pet store for dry skin. Usually has oatmeal in it. But if the dog is scratching so much that its loosing it hair and bleeding, its time to take it to the vet. They have pharmiceutical strength shampoo for dry skin or they can test if its a fungal infection in which case theyd prescribe a tablet form of medication and possibly some kind of ointment.

Please, do not buy medications or use Pantene on your dog. They are not good ideas.

The most common cause for dry skin in dogs is the food they eat. In 90% of cases it is the preservatives in dog food that cause it.

Find a dry dog biscuit which has no preservatives, artificial colours or artificial flavours. This does not have to be an expensive brand. Pour a little olive oil over the biscuits each day for a week, and then every few days after that. Also add a raw egg every week.

In addition, feed your dog large, raw, split marrowbones, split down the centre so your dog can eat the rich marrow inside. They last for a week, then throw it out and buy a new one.

Looking at dogs in the wild, we can see that they eat a lot of marrow and other oily body parts. Canned dog food is absolute rubbish and will make your dog unhealthy. The only diet a domesticated dog needs is the oiled biscuits, the marrow bones, and some meat offcuts occasionally - not the steaks, the cheap bits. Dogs in the wild ignore steak cuts, as they don't have enough nutrients to make them worth eating.

get dry skin shampoo from a pet store..if that dont work you better go to the vet! cause my dog just had that and it was from Flea saliva! It sounds Krazy...i know...it dont mean your dog has fleas...its just when they go pee outside the fleas could have been there and left saliva or just jumped on your dog enought to leave some saliva behind and your dog is allergic to it! Good luck

Feed her cod liver oil, about one tablespoon per day. She'll love you, because dogs love stinky, fishy smells and food.

If this doesn't solve the flaking within one week, then take her to the vet because she has any number of skin conditions, including an allergy to fleas or an infestation of another insect.

Give Freckles some wheat grass every day. The dog is missing some important nutrients from her diet.

'Nuff said?

Take the dry flaky skin out for dinner, read it a nice story before putting it to bed.

Are you sure it's dandruff. It could be scabbies since she is itching so bad. You can't see them with out a microscope. I think you should take her to the vet and have her tested.
