I am asking this question as part of a research project for my psychology class. I did a lot of drugs when I was younger and I was later diagnosed with Panic disorder and severe deppression, I am wondering if there is any correlation between the two things. Thank you to everyone who answers all results will be kept confidential although I would like your age, age when started using illegal drugs, and age diagnosed, and which disorder.

I smoked pot every single day my junior and senior year of high school and through much of college (age 16-20). I'm 26 now. I'm happily married and have a beautiful baby girl. I run a great business at home that has proven to be a success for me.
Not much to be depressed about, huh? I do have a chemical imbalance. Pain receptors don't work right in my brain and I think I hurt all the time (Fibromyalgia). I also have an anxienty disorder.

I didn't use any drugs until I was in college and I didn't use them for long. I personally haven't been diagnosed with any psychotic or mental disorders. My husband on the other had has smoked pot since he was about 13 (still does) and has done several harder drugs in the meantime as well such as crack, cocaine, acid, mushrooms, ectasy, alcohol...etc...he has bouts of severe depression and has had bulimia for about 25 years (he is 48 now). I'm not convinced that his mental disorders are secondary to his drug use but rather his personality disorders led to his drug abuse...I think that he just self medicated.

Smoked pot... hash at age 15-17
Diagnosed with social anxiety at 20, depression at 22.
I believe I had OCD as a child but wasn't diagnosed.

I have done some light drugs as a teen and quit shortly after. Later after a divorce I experimented with harder ones, and then shortly quit. I am happy, well balanced, mom, deans list student (full time), friend, employee (full time), and many other hats. No disorders. 36 years old. Started at 14.

i smoked weed for a good 6 years and I was diagnosed with depression and hold symptoms (without diagnosis) for panic disorder. Don't know if there is a connection or not, but it IS something to think about.

I can tell you for sure - none of the kids I knew took drugs but ALL were diagnosed with mental disorders anyway. Go figure.

I did weed, nothing else, my hubby did little weed, but acid, as did his mother at the experiments at UCLA in the 50s. She is a little demented now in her 80s but lived alone until age 79. He and I are okay, eccentric but no major mental disorders. We are in our late 40s/early 50s.
If you are truly researching this you need to include negatives, but you are going to get select sampling with this method. You may want to discuss methodology of data collection with your professor.

From the literature I've read certain disorders are prone to exist in cerain personalities that have little discipline and allow the id to prevail.Depression is often the result and anxiety also.

Worshipping false rock & roll idols in the 70's like the Grateful-Dead, destroyed many of my friends, and turned them into bitter alcoholic, non-functioning, depressed, pot-head members of society in their 50's. YES, their is a direct correlation.
