My neighbors are from South India, and they brought a very nice Indian outfit for my daughter from there. I want to write them a Thank You note in Indian language. How do I write:

" Thank you very much for the beautiful outfit you brought for us. We appreciate your kindness and generosity. Please accept this present from us in return."

You need to ask what language they speak. There are four states in the south, each with its own official language. If they are from Tamil Nadu, they will probably speak Tamil; from Kerala - Malayalam; from Andra Pradesh - Telugu; or from Karnataka - Kanada. Even knowing the state may not be enough because there are many other languages spoken there.

I would check to see what region they're from exactly...Hindi would be a good shot, but there are tons of languages and dialects in India...there's no standard "Indian."

Maybe posting this letter to the YA India site at the bottom might bring better responses.
