My butthead neighbor was telling me that men were superior and his argument was that HE WAS MAN.... WOMEN WERE MADE FROM HIM... ADAM's RIB...

I looked at him and said, "So what... maybe God wanted to perfect his craft. It's like taking a manifold off a Ford Pinto and making a Cadillac."

What do you think?

That was a clever response.

"God" entrusted to women, after all, the incubation of humans in their wombs. Women were given the awesome power of bringing life forth into the world!

I think you're absolutely right about that simile! Can I use it on men, too?

Your neighbor is an ignorant goof ball so who cares what he says or what he thinks! The actual translation is not that God fashioned Eve from Adams rib!
Ask a person who has a masters degree in Hebrew, the language in which the text was written. The actual proper translation is that God fashioned woman(Eve) from mans (Adams) side! Not a rib for crying out loud! The only reason people even think that is because many Christians such as your neighbor have been blabbing there mouths off for years upon years fanatically, without even really knowing what it says!!! The true translation refers to the fact that in the beginning man had the female and male within himself. He still does! A man has an X and a Y chromosome where a woman has two X chromosomes and that is the material factor that determines your sex. Nothing about this makes a man superior to a woman, it just makes us different and yet compatible. What do I think about your neighbor? He is an ignorant and foolish man which probably makes him less than you in some ways.

There is a little story...God made woman and man from Clay at the same time. When having sex, the woman, named Lilith, wanted to be on top, Adam didn't like the idea because god was against the woman being on top. Her argument was that they were "equals" because both were made by god and from clay, she had to choose between be at he bottom or leave, so she left, Eve came later but this time god made her out of Adam's rib, so she was inferior to Adam, Your neighbor has an argument there, as you can see, Jehovah was not a feminist, or for equals rights, I never liked the guy anyway. The story has been simplified a lot, you get the idea. Ah... almost forgot... your neighbor is a jackass

How about Adam and Eve was a Jewish myth that Christians decided to take literally? It's like if suddenly, someone founded a religion that believed in the ancient Greek myths. Get over it.

I think some folks take these questions too damned seriously.

(Oh...and doesn't the Cadillac end up rear-ending the Pinto, and they both wind up in the junkyard?)

as a christian and a husband, i make the final decision.

that said, nothing that i do (except look at the young ladies on the beach) is done without consideration of my wife. she has input into every life-changing decision that i make.

from moving from one state to another for a job, to where we will worship. because she was "given" to me by God, i have to accept that He wants her to be happy and well taken care of as well, even above my own thoughts and actions.

the bible is pretty clear that not just is woman made from man's rib, she's also made from one of those little crooked ribs towards the bottom of the rib cage.

sorry, women get it pretty hard in christianity
