When I had my wisdom teeth out two months ago I was as scared as you -- but you have to remember to trust your oral surgeon and know that they won't do anything to hurt you intentionally. My pain lasted only a day or two after the surgery and that was IT! You will feel fine in under a week.

it depends on how extensive the removal process will be... it probably wont' take long but give yourself at least a week for proper recovery although people normally can get back to work in 1 or 2 day's. Remember to use an ice pack on the area every so often and change your gauze every 20 or so mintues until you don't see any more bleeding. Gargle with salt water periodically to keep the area clean and the salt will also help to heal you as well. for the first few days you may want to only drink soups and drink water.. don't use a straw as the sucking action can actually cause more pain and hinder healing... Hope you'll do well.. good luck.

Oooh, I didn't mind having three of my wisdom teeth removed with oral surgery, at all! I might have had a unique experience but it was painless and I healed quickly.
I went to the oral surgeon's office and had total anesthesia. They gave me an IV in my hand (didn't hurt) and the last thing I remembered was opening my mouth and counting backwards from 100. I got to 98. I woke up in the "recovery room" with a mouthful of gauze and no pain. They gave me ice packs to ice my cheeks and some pain medication but, honestly... I ate a grilled cheese sandwich about 2 hours after I returned home. I used the ice packs but I was a little out of it and I just went to sleep. I even forgot to take the pain medication. I experienced no swelling and frankly, no pain. I received the melting-type of stitches in my gums (the three of my wisdoms were impacted) -- and I followed the instructions about rinsing often with salt water to avoid infection.
I hope that your oral surgery goes as well as mine did. Good luck!

This a fairly routine procedure. That is if you are going to a dentist who does them often. Wisdom teeth can be tricky to get out sometimes. You will probably be recovering for at least a week or two. You need to keep the site very clean and follow all the instuctions they give you.

The biggest thing I can tell you is not to SMOKE at least 24 hours after the surgery. There is a chance that you can get a dry socket. I had one and it was the most painful thing I have ever had.
Oh and Nitrous is your friend.
Good Luck!

If you can afford it, get the gas for the procedure. If they have to drill the tooth out, it can be unsettling and painful. If it comes out in one piece, it only hurts for a monent.
You should expect to be pretty miserable for one day, but you will have good drugs prescribed to you. Don't be afraid to use them.
After that, it's just mild discomfort that will improve each day.
