Giving him a meal and some money is more than a lot of people do nowadays. You did a very good thing. With limited resources there really is not much more you could have done. Even with unlimited resources, with all the homeless and needy, it can only go so far. God Bless.

You did a kind deed! However yes in this bountiful land of milk and honey, we all need jobs! We all have needs and bills. Why was this person hungry? why did he need to ask for food instead of providing for himself? I have 4 kids and a husband of whom I would do ANYTHING for so they would not be hungry! There are several jobs, all kinds , Yes they have minimal pay at times but so what get a second or third if needed. I feel badly when I see the beggers standing on the corner at the off ramp with signs will work for food, or help was stranded, Or down on my luck. I am truly sorry but why? I really don't understand why they are in this situation? Get to work or do something.....not beg. I could truly understand if there is a physical problem.....well not even then as there are just too many orginizations that will help you find work, living quarters, etc.

well yes some people are not as fortunate as we are but your ok for buying his food but giving him money is a big no no. what do u think he did with that?bought a bottle of booze i would guess. you know whats so disturbing to me is most of those kind of people can work and they choose to stand on a corner and beg did u also know that many of those type of people make more money than a hard working person and is that fair? why should we support them.let me tell u something else my family works very hard for what we have which isnt much but we have food clothing and a roof over our head if something happened to us tomarrow do u thing you could get public assistants hell no we couldnt why not cause we work to hard.im sorry i got off in a tangent but its really upsetting to me.so you really did do the right thing by giving him food god bless people like you

I think you did the right thing for that situation. I know that a lot of people would respond with something like, "get a job!" or even meaner! I am glad to see that you have compassion for others, and I hope you remember this experience and continue to touch others' lives.

Maybe you could start a food drive at your work or school. If you're in college and living on campus, go door-to-door in your dorm.

you did good, but there's always more we feel we could have done. Remember though, a lot of the people who are living on the streets and such really don't have to be. Some of them choose that way of life, to scrounge off others. Then again, I suppose some haven't much of a choice. I figure there's always some place to go though.. a shelter, church, etc.

I have come face to face with hunger, and deal with it every day. From others who are homeless, or alike. I use to give money to the poor. and then soon realized that the poor drink and drug and spend it on their addictions. So, I have for the past three years cooked a roast and all the fixings on Sunday and bring it to the poor. It's sad, mental illness plays a big role in our homeless and poor. The other percent is addictions and alike.

Giving him money for one more meal was a kind thing to do, but he's still poor. I think that you did a good thing, but his situation in the long run is hardly improved. I believe that someday, we shall eliminate poverty. Christians must disagree, because Jesus said the we would "always" have the poor with us. But whatever. Just remember that you did a poor old man a kindness.

he offered you a safe way to help him and you took the unsecure way to do it. You opened your purse and could have been robbed.

I have handed $20 on a payday to a guy who had a broken leg and was begging. On another occasion some guy saw I was hand painting my car in a parking lot and offered to help me, then hung around for a dollar so he could go get lunch. I had a friend once who was poor himself and when some guy asked for part of his drink they went out back of the grocery store and shared the one bottle of booze. Once I stopped to pick up a guy I saw walking with a heavy load who looked like he wouldn't make it. We got to talking when some guy came out of his house and almost beat the poor guy. I drove around the corner and came back and gave that tired guy a lift home. So I know what you are talking about. Once some guy asked me for food and I told him I'd make a deal with him, join me in lunch and I'll pay for your meal, and he did. I saw a poor ill woman in poor clothing begging for food. She said she couldn't work and her husband had a broken arm and they lived in their van and the police told them which area was secure to stay during the night. I gave her money and clothing. Then one day I found myself in those same predicaments as above and when I asked for help it was handed to me and people were there for me. My mother always told me it's like "bread on the water". What you do for someone comes back in your life when you have the need.

I buy the poor and elderly a meal every time i see one in my local diner .
The diner is located right behind a hospital .
If I see someone going through Chemo I pay for their meal also .
I do this through the waitresses and the people never know who`s paying .

There was nothing more you could have done. You did a wonderful thing, you showed him kindness when the rest of world would not. You did all that you could. I wish you peace in your heart.
