Here's a cool training plan for going from a basic non-runner to someone capable of doing a 5K (3.1 miles).

I run 5Ks all the time. Just keep your pace in check and don't go all out. You'll make your race miserable if you try to keep up with the lead pack and aren't up to the pace. Don't be afraid to walk if you haven't quite gotten the distance down, but by November, you should be able to do 3.1 miles with no problems.

All, I can say is break into running easily. Your body goes through a lot of changes and I've seen a lot of people post their injuries because they tried to do too much, too soon.

Feel free to drop me a line if you need more helping preparing for a 5K.

Good luck.

Check out the internet. For those of us who enjoy running longer distances, there are "training programs" available on the internet to tell you how much you should do each day in order to prepare.

Check out the one below for 5K beginner runners (they also have advice and training programs for other races as well). Good luck!

I would just start with training and diet. They both work together and on the day of the race, start at the starting line.
