My Grandmother, own a small croft in Scotland, really a small country home. No real amenities, just country life.
All our cousins would be there, and just have all kinds of fun there, with the animals, and just being out of doors, after living in the city.
It's been many years, but all of us, have very fond memories of that time.

My favorite memory is when my grandparents (from my mothers side) and I used to walk to the park early morning on the weekends. We'd leave before my parents were even up. My grandfather would put about three to four cups of rice and we'd find a nice bench in the park somewhere and start feeding the pigeons. Its my favorite memory because its the only time I can remember now that i was ever truly happy without a care in the world. This memory was from when I was in kindergarten. I am now 22.
As for my grandparents on my dads side I only knew my grandmother, but no good memories there.

Thanks for posing such a great question. I had a wonderful time revisiting all those fond memories. I was blessed to have had so many wonderful memories with my grandparents. For example, on my Mom's side, there were the times my brother and I would go up to their attic and go on "treasure hunts" or play with Lincoln Logs, argue who would sleep in the basement....as "creepy" as it was, it was still a thrill to get to do that. Of course, there were the nights, my brother and I would wake up at midnight or later and we would have a Sara Lee cupcake. Trips to Roger Williams Park to feed the ducks was always an adventure.
On my Dad's side, we always enjoyed walking to Newport Creamery for ice cream, or walk to visit nearby relatives or friends. We also enjoyed walking up to the nearby drugstore and being able to pick out a small prize. I loved to watch the Little Rascals with my Grandpa while sitting in "rocking chair" or hear him tell a joke...he was the best! Could that man whistle! To this day, whenever I hear a good "Whistler" it is a pleasure to just stand and listen. Now my Grandma, well she is the only one who knew how to butter my toast just right and add a slice of white American cheese. Her hugs and hearing her speak (with that New England accent) were so comforting. What I would give just for one more day to be with them!!!

my not so much favourite memory, but one that makes me smile these days is of my great grandmother.
she suffered from rickets when she was young and it left her bow legged. she found difficulty in moving properly.
we were as usual bad kids, but she had a good memory and when we were not expecting it we would receive a slap around the ear.
I didn't get to see her very often, but just before my seventh birthday I must had done or said something wrong. the next time I saw her was during the Summer holidays (eight months later) and i received that slap and was reminded what I did before my birthday.
Sadly she died two years later, but I will always remember her.

As they live abroad, I was aged around 13 the first time I met my grandparents. We had lovely homecooked food where the chicken came from the back garden and we tried turtle soup (not so lovely), it was such an interesting experience. Later, grandfather lit fireworks in the yard, huge rockets and catherine wheels and mad spinning fireworks whizzing around dangerously on the ground. This was so amazing for my siblings and me as we never had fireworks at home. They were and still are so warm, welcoming and kind.

Kind of not an answer to your question, but I am over 50 and never met either set of grandparents. They died before I was born. I feel like I missed out on something!

Oh man, this is just awful now that I think about it!
My mother's father was from Czechoslovakia, a real hard dude. He worked at a dye shop in Newark, NJ for years making machines that made tools. He passed away maybe 6 years ago, but I remember him vividly.

My dad owned a liquor store at the time, and I used to go with him on deliveries...So one time when I was little, like 7 or 8, we pulled up his driveway to deliver his 6 pack of schmidt's beer and he was sitting in his garage on a stool wearing a dirty old wife beater undershirt and some old shorts with his old slippers.

Now keep in mind this guy was from the old school - I'm talking old school like his idea of gourmet hor's derves was a piece of kielbasa on a ritz cracker with some mustard!

So he's sitting on this stool smoking a cigar, hanging out of his mouth, a long handled back scratcher in one hand and a huge plastic bottle of vinegar in the other.

His legs were all red and swollen/bloody, it was gross!! He was scratching off a nasty case of poison ivy and pouring vinegar on it to dry it out! WHAT A CRAZY BASTARD he was, but I loved him to death - made me smoke a cigar with him when I was 9, never been so sick in my life!

The bad part is, as my mom gets older, she acts more and more like him - what a stubborn old woman she is going to be! Oh Family!

Going to Pogles Wood for picnics. Watching the wrestling on a Saturday lunchtime with my Gran. Waiting for a toffee from my Grandad.
Best memory of all, everything we did.
God I miss them.
