I don't really know what you're asking about. I suppose people answer what they think is the question because they don't understand the question. How could they answer anything other than what they think they're reading? If you don't write good enough questions to impart the necessary information for a person to "answer the question," you're gonna get stuck with whatever people think of based on what you wrote.

And you just made a generalization. Ironic much?

Because most of them can't understand the question/s in the context that they are asked, and even if they do, few of them can reply in clear and concise sentences that have any degree of coherence. Or they have a sense of humour about life. Take you pick.

what i infer in your question is that everybody but you cannot read. in that, it is the failing of the united states and the current education system.

therefore, i think that the question would be better posted in the education section of the yahoo! answers.
