The physicists I know mostly realize that 4004 BC creation is a misinterpretation of the Bible.
During my college years, I participated in a (paid) research project on radioactive halos (or haloes in some writings) which are key to understanding the age of the earth.
From these halos we see that either there has been a major change in particle science or the earth is pretty old.
If anyone wants to chase that rabbit, Professor Jolly in Proceedings Royal Academy of Sciences, 1907 and a few years around that time.
In a nutshell, you have rings in some mineral, mostly in mica, around a tiny "inclusion" which seems to at some time have contained a radioactive substance. The rings indicate the energy levels at which particles were ejected from the nucleus. A high energy electron travels further than a lower energy electron from the same material. The rings are proportional to the energy levels and when you see a void which the rings indicate contained U238 and there is no remaining U238 in the sample, you can assume that rock crystal has existed a very long time. - U238 half life is in Billions of years.

While I am a Christian, I am not a scientist. That being said from several works I have seen and documentaries there is a view by some Christian scientists which supports the idea of an older Earth. This belief is that there is a large gap between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. This belief is based on the fact that each creation of God is perfect, where as the Earth is described as void, with darkness upon the face of the deep ( I am not quoting exactly so you can read the scripture in your respective version of the Bible to verify). This is far from the long answer you are looking for, but it's a basic outlook seen by some.

I agree with the above.. As a physicist myself i have studied many books on the relationship of God and The creation of the Cosmos.. So far they have proven The Biblical creation to be TIME consistent as to when the solar system was created and life itself on the planet..
Also the patterns of the creation of the Cosmos prove the existance of GOD Himself..
I recommend reading math and Physics books relating God and the Universe to get mathematical and other scientific proof of God's existance as the topic is huge..
But remember you will find proof that has been known for ages

People who support the creationism myth believe that the existence of things they don't understand is proof that god exists.
It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.
To answer your question, no legitimate scientist buys into such nonsense. Though plenty will pretend to be scientists to further their cause. Hell, amongst themselves, they even call it 'creation SCIENCE'!!
Again, if not so tragic, it would be comical.

there are thousands of resources written by reputable scientists
visit
http://www.answersingenesis.org/
http://www.discovery.org/
and many more if you google creation science.
granted there are some 'out there' fundamentalists websites, but these two are very good
before you laff yourself silly - take a good look at some of the research and compare it to research done in the mainstream evolutionary circles. both are neither proven nor disproven as non of the scientists were 'there' to see anything happen - and therefore both are faith based theories.

The professionals I know in those disciplines are more aware that the Theory of Evolution is the way life began. Same as me.

The Bible does not support the 6000 year old earth.
God created the earth from nothing.
God restructured the new earth on the old chassis.
No one knows how old the earth is.
Feel better?

no. that said, there is proof positive that there were dinosaurs and other living creatures prior to the book of Genesis.
as a christian and a scientist, i have not attempted to tackle this subject as it is currently beyond my scope of investigative knowledge, but i do follow those who have claimed to study the subject.
science already proves pre-history as well as biblical history. one day, perhaps, it will be able to prove divinity as well.
