Explain this is something that your relly really want to do and then make her give you an answer as to why she would force you to do something you don't want to do.

I think you'll get more out of the class on politics than being a student aide. As far as lunch goes, like someone said, be a leader. Either seek out and become friends with those 20 in your grade or make friends with some underclassmen. I'm sure some of them are nice. I moved when I was in 11th grade (21 years ago) the only person I keep in touch with is a neighbor who was in 8th grade at the time.

Sounds like your Mom is not as concerned as you are about hanging with your friends during lunch. Explain the advantages of the lunch you prefer, but other than that you have to abide by her decisions...

And to Tommy - why do you think she can make her mom give her an answer?

Can't you take politics next year?

Also in the big scheme of things, having to go to the 1st lunch isn't going to matter when you are in college.

Sorry to bring it down to this level, but this reminds me of poor old Neville Longbottom from Harry Potter, and his grandmother trying to get him to do Transfiguration (which he sucks at) instead of Herbology (which he's good at, but his grandmother thinks is a waste of time).

You should do what YOU want to do, not what your mother thinks you should do. Tell her politics is not something that interests you, and would probably even skip it if she did make you take it, so it would be a waste of time making you take the class anyway.

It's your education, not hers, and in the end, it's none of your business. If your mum is of no help, talk to your form tutor, head of year, and/or head of drama, who will try to get you on the course you want. You don't even have to tell your mum! ;)

Back to the Neville Longbottom thing; Professor McGonagall (the head of Gryffindor House) convinced Neville to take higher level Herbology, which is why I think asking the teachers will work.

Ah, classic literature. Is there anything you can't do? :)

In any case, good luck!

Find a way to make the first lunch a good lunch! You can make it happen. Be a leader.

cant you just do it without her permission? eventually she would realise its what makes you happier. she has your best interests at heart though
