...when people say, whatever you believe is true is the truth.
Can we not agree that truth is a firm thing? That the world ultimately cannot be both round and flat? That in the end, there is only and can only be THE truth?

PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS:

OPEN YOUR MIND
Try watching "What the Bleep do we Know?"
it poses a lot of questions, and has a lot of hopeful answers.

The universe is a STRANGE place, and there are a lot of things that we may never know.

Yes, some things may SEEM like they are universally true, like... "The sky is blue." But WHAT IS BLUE? Is the blue I see the same as the blue you see?

We may never know.

Go into everything with an open mind...

Alaskan Snowcrabs exist whether I believe in them or not. My opinion has absolutely no baring on the truth.

This is something which has been lost in our society. Everything is feelings...nothing is facts.

The fact is, Christians are either right or they are wrong. Same is true for Muslims, Jews, atheists, and Cthulu worshipers. There is only ONE truth, and that's that. NOW, the truth could be that God has made himself into many stories and many trains of reasoning, designed much like a modern marketing campaign to attract as many potential buyers as possible. Even still, if that's the truth, then THAT'S the truth.

No one can know the truth. They can BELIEVE something, but that is different than knowing. Every religion says "I'm the truth" and some people fault them for that, but that's retarded. If a religion didn't believe itself, then it would be a pointless excercise.

I'm just surprised that someone out there was able to ACTUALLY understand such a simple concept, in this world of BS politcal correct nonsense.

I own a dog, she's a border collie, and considered smart. The fact is that she may believe that the world is flat, or that the cubed root of nine is not three. Does not change the truth nor the believer. What if she is right?..What if truth only belongs to beings of a higher level? Truth may not be the answer, but it might be what we should strive for. I believe that is true..

I agree, there are two different ways people think: they use the "either/or" philosophy, or they use the "and/and" philosophy. You can decide that you know something is right/wrong, or you can decide that it's right whatever it is. Some people depend on blind faith, while some others depend solely on logic and reason. But the best conclusion I've come to is that without logic and reason working together as partners, they are both just fluff. Here's an example: If a color blind person sees green and thinks it's red, does that make it red? No. Red is red, even if it looks like green to some people. And by the way, some folks on here may just have enough back-bone to post these opinions on the internet, they have to start somewhere.

People may SAY that whatever someone believes is true IS the truth, but what they SHOULD say is that what is true for one person is their REALITY, since reality and truth are different. Reality changes when something is added to it or taken from it, Truth does not change, so very little is actually 'true'. When you take away all the time based and experienced based truths (actually realities) you are left with that which has not changed, and IT is the Truth.

It depends on what it is. Also, a fact is not necessarily a truth. A belief is also an opinion and not a truth. So when people say "whatever you believe is true is the truth" they really mean that you should have faith in your beliefs and don't let others tell you differently. Whether they are FACTS or TRUTHS, can be debated.

"Whatever you believe is true, is the truth" is actually a half-truth. Usually what happens to things you believe in wholeheartedly is you go and build a belief system around said belief. Within that system, you make all your big decisions and decide how your going to use your time. To you, whether supported or not by your peers, this is your definition of truth. Does that make it right? Well...no, but one can't rate truth by right or wrong. There is THE TRUTH, but we finite creatures don't have the mental capacity to understand perfect truth when, by design (free-will), we are made imperfect.

Hey girl wonder, how can you say that noone will ever know the real truth? Maybe someone does and everyone else is just wrong? There is only one truth, The way, the truth and the life. There are however, too many distortions of that truth.

Yes and no. You're oversimplifying.

Can the Earth be both flat and round? No. It's round. We can prove that it is round.

But which color is better? Blue or green? You may prefer green, but does that make it the "better" color for all? What does "better" mean?

The fact that a person really, really believes that a Jewish carpenter rose from the dead and can prove that his father, his grandfather, and also his ancient ancestor believed this to be true is not the same as it being fact that a Jewish carpenter rose from the dead.

Beliefs, opinions, and preferences are not, in and of themselves, truths.

well that depends of what kind of thruth you're talking about.
rational truth like if you jump of a plane without a parachute, you probably going hurt yourself, or like pigs don't fly. rational truth.

flexible truth usually includes sentences where you could add : "I think that...."

and then, if enough people (the majority) believing something is true, then it becomes. like right, wrong.

then there's the other kind of flexible truth, play with words. say I kissed a girl. my girlfriend might call it cheating, but maybe I wouldn't call kissing someone cheating. So true... not true? anyway...

Thank you for bringing that up.
Yes, there is such a thing as ABSOLUTE TRUTH..

In fact Jesus said: " I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life; no man can come to the Father except through me".-- Jesus

He believed the Word of God was absolute,,,,....and SO DO I.
