Even if it was a cult it would still be a religion. But actually its just a bunch of self-help things researched by a writer back in the 50's. Much of their courses can be found in other self-help and alt-healing groups now that you can do that without being a religion or doctor.

I took a couple courses from them years ago. Communications and part of a study course. Did me alot of good. Even the anti-scientology sites say that most people only take the few cheap courses then leave before the serious stuff. Doesnt sound much like a cult to me.

But I like the other answer that anything not christianity is a cult. heehee

The Scientology religion is an expanding new religion, founded by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. The word Scientology means the “study of knowledge or truth” and addresses the rehabilitation and salvation of the human spirit.

Today, there are 4,200 Scientology groups, missions and churches in 156 countries around the world serving some 10 million Scientologists. Additionally, Churches of Scientology support more than a thousand social betterment groups, which utilize L. Ron Hubbard's methods in the fields of education, drug and criminal rehabilitation, and moral rejuvenation.

The Church has expanded more in the last five years than in the preceding fifty. In the last year alone, new Scientology groups, missions and churches have opened at the rate of three per day.

A cult is any group which teaches doctrines or beliefs that deviate from the biblical message of the Christian faith. It is very important that we recognize cults and avoid any involvement with them. Cults often teach some Christian truth mixed with error, which may be difficult to detect. There are some features common to most cults:
They do not adhere solely to the sixty-six books of the Bible as the inspired Word of God. They add their "special revelations" to the Bible as equally authoritative.

They do not accept that our relationship to Jesus Christ is a reality "by grace through faith" alone, but practice instead a salvation by works.

They do not give Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, full recognition as the second Person of the Trinity, composed of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Some of these groups are Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, the Unification Church, Unitarians, Spiritists, Scientologists, and others

Scientology is a millionaire religious cult that you must posses a certain amount of money and power to join. It's based upon the work of a sci-fi author for Gods sake!! Anyway, believe what you want. I think he's a freaking moron that duped other people into believing him, a la Tom Sawyer whitewashing his fence.
