Exactly. And that's why the theology where a God is directly involved in this whole mess doesn't make sense. Our bodies are built for separation and defense (e.g. defense against bacteria, viruses, others, etc.) and they then fail us with death. Why would a god make a world with all this negative stuff? Why would he create a world where life feeds on life (predators hunting prey, etc.)? The only rational conclusion is that there is no god, right? This is the path that I went down; I also decided to keep an open mind. I did think about the mystery of existence itself - how it's incredible that ANYTHING is here at all (think about the fact that, whether there is god or not, something had to always have existed - very weird). I read and read - anything I could get my hands on (near death experiences, quantum physics stuff, etc.) and none of it satisfied my questions about life and death. All belief systems and systems of thought seemed to be arbitrarily adopted by people to give life an artificial meaning and/or to deal with the threat of non-existence. I read some Zen stuff but it didn't make much sense to me. I then came across 'A Course in Miracles' and its theology finally made sense: a non-theistic god that has nothing to do with the world and form (made by 'us' - hard to explain that one, it would take a number of paragraphs) and that this god knows us only in our real state of being (as non-separate, non-dualistic, non-individual oneness where there's no form and just Love). I know, it sounds like mumbo jumbo and that's a good way to look at all theologies -- because they should not be considered truth but, instead, should be used to train the mind to get a direct experience of Truth. This is what my answer is ultimately leading to: that the lack of meaning in life and the ultimate failure that you see is precisely the start of the spiritual path AND no belief system or set of concepts will ever be sufficient. Instead, we need to go and find out for ourselves to see if we can resolve, as Zen teachers call it, the 'issue of life and death'. We use beliefs and concepts as tools to get to that experience -- not as things that we consider to be the ultimate truth (which is how many people use religion). I had small glimpses that blew me away -- my self had moved sufficiently away to have a glimpse of Unconditional Love and it was amazing - we're never and have never been alone. And there is no sin, guilt, etc. I only had a small glimpse, of course. I started to really do the lessons in the Course in Miracles (as well as study the text) and I also supplemented it with Zen (given that, despite the chrisitan language used in the Course, the Course was the same as Zen, using Christian words in a completely new way). I read '3 Pillars of Zen' and I highly recommend it -- it's a well-respected book and the only one out there that provides small descriptions of some enlightenment experiences that people had. It's incredible -- the people had no fear of death anymore.

Well we can't stay young forever, so isn't death preferable to being old and crippled for eternity in a world where there is only birth, no death?
You have to make the most of what you have while you have it, death is a fact of life you can't argue with (well you can try...)
When the time comes for the cold coffin, you'll be dead, you won't feel a thing :D

we dont die.we move on.look at you body like it was a car.its just a vehicle for your soul.and youve already died several times.was it scary?did you know it>ill explain.it is fact that every day billions of cells in your body die and are replaced with new ones.every seven years every cell in your body has died and was reborn.so the body you had as an infant didnt stretch,..it died and was reborn.you didnt know any different, you didnt feel or fear it,..it just happened.one day your cells wont be as strong and wont regenerate,so you get old.and your body dies.but you soul just steps out of the body, like taking off an old suit, and you get a new body, one that wont die.we continue to exisist long after psysical death.spirits, ghosts, have been proven to exist.reincarnation has also been proven.people all over the world have been regressed through hypnosis and recalled past lives, spoken languages they had no way of knowing, and told of places they never been, named names and were 100% accurate.so dont worry about the coffin my friend, you wont be in it.youll be looking down on the husk that your soul once resided in.and youll be on to new adventures.have a good one.

Dying isn't the end. There is so much more after that. It is uncomprehendable how wonderful it will be after death.
I look at how much worse this world gets day by day and I get less and less afraid of dying because I know that it will be better on the other side. I will get to see all of the people that have passed on before me and meet the ones that I didn't get to meet.
Best of all, I will get to see God and Jesus Christ. If that isn't worth dying for, I don't know what is.

I'm not afraid of my physical body dying. It happens. Everytime you wake up, you should know your mortality. You have to die physically.
But you can be immortal. (Find me that damn fountain of youth will you?) Or you can be remembered. Be someone great and let the historians bicker over your life 1000 years from now in the future. That way your spirit will always be here inside everyone.
This prolly has nothing to do with this but: Would you ready be dead in a coffin or alive in one with noway to get out? Would it be better to die in it than spend the rest of eternity waiting for someone to help you out of it?

I don't like the idea of it either, it seems unfair if there is a higher power to let us die. The only consolation is when we die we won't know it because we are dead, so we will only ever know what it is to live. Don't worry about it , just enjoy your life and be happy. There is no point worrying about things that you haven't the power to change.

the earlier you realise that all life is terminal, he better you tend to appreciate llife and your maker.
without others dying, others will not be born. God owes no man nothing, so if He took you from the ground, you must be returned to the ground, because nature teaches that all sources must be constantly nourished for it to be able to produce others.
if you are afraid of death, then you probably need to talk to God about your salvation NOW! its a free gift that determines where your eternity will be spent.

The price of sin is death. We are all sinners (Rom 3:23).
On the other hand, to escape the second death, i.e. lake of fire (Rev. 20), you simply need to choose to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. This brings a justified relationship with God, and eternal life in fellowship with Him. If our bodies never passed on, we could never experience this glorious life.

Personally I'm looking forward to it, to be able to let go of the prison of this human body and soar wherever I want to, experience things I can't even imagine yet. NO ONE has proven that death is the END only the end of life in THIS body.
