I have a friend that has started cutting. She used to listen to rap, like school, love life, etc.In the past few weeks she has changed. She now only wears clothes from hot topic, listens to hard rock, and as I have learned, recently started to cut herself. I can understand that the changes in style and music are normal. But the self-harming is what i'm worried about.I self-harmed and cut my wrist before and so this problem is no stranger to me. But Im scared because this new habit of hers is getting much worse in a short period of time. It has been 3 weeks and she now has 20+ cuts, doing usually 4 at once. She says she likes the pain and it feels good. The source of the problem is her boyfriend. He is depressed suicidal and uses a lot of drugs. He thinks it's hot when she cuts and introduced it to her. She thinks shes in love and gettin married w/ him(shes 14)she cuts when hes sad.Im scared of what she might to if he dumps/cheats on her.Suicide seems likely if so. what do i do?

People don't cut because others make them. If they did, they wouldn't listen. People cut to reduce stress. Not only is her boyfriend depressed, she probably is as well. Talk to her about seeing a counselor. If she doesn't listen, talk to you school counselor and then your parents or her parents. Make the decision to help her. She still has many good years ahead of her.

This may be for attention, or possibly because her boyfriend thinks its hot. Teenagers can be so arrogent about so many things(which is hypocritical, im one too) one of which is love.
A way to keep her away from her bf would be to hang out with her constantly. Don't give her a chance to be around him. Go to the park, take a walk, go to a movie, go rollerblading, whatever. Just make sure he doesn't come.
Also, you should talk to her about the problem, and tell her how it makes you feel, how it makes other girls/guys that are her friends feel, and have them tell her also. If that doesn't change anything, talk to her parents about her boyfriend. If that doesn't work, just tell a counseler/her parents about her cutting.
I hope your friend stops cutting. Good luck to you. And heres a fact that i hope will cheer you up a little bit. Males are 4 times more likely to succede in commiting suicide than girls, and only 1/6 of succesful suicides are by teenagers.
Hope i helped a little.

You HAVE to tell someone. And yes, she doesn't have to know it's you. I think in this instance I'd try to tell an adult that she has some trust in first before a school counselor, it might make it easier later on for her to get help. If you're up to it I'd tell someone about her boyfriend too, as it sounds like she'll do whatever he does, and if he gets help she might follow suit. Not the best option, but any little bit helps. Good luck!

Cutting ins't a problem that others make you do. It's a self choice. Talk to her. Explain that you are worried about her. This boy sounds like a lot of trouble. Talk to an adult about this. It's the best way to go.

Tell her parents, tell a teacher, tell someone. You don't have to let her know it was you. Slip a note under a door. Anything. She needs help. A true friend would tell.

If she is truly your friend, you will tell her parents. She needs help ASAP. If her parents won't help, tell someone at school.
