This is a question that has a yes and no answer. Soap directly on the flea will kill it. Fleas are very capable of avoiding soap. Soap is slower acting than flea killing shampoos so that most will survive. NOW is the scientific reason : fleas, wasps, grasshoppers breath through the holes in their bodies, soap clogs the holes and they suffocate. Fleas are difficult to kill and I would suggest you find a more effective flea killer.

No it does not. Also many flea shampoos and flea powders will only stun the flea and it will spring to life later.
Flea collars are worthless, since they only protect a couple of inches on either side of the collar.
A prescription pill called Capstar will kill all live fleas instantly. You can watch them kamikazee right off your dog. Really cool in a gross way. The problem is that the fleas from the environment can jump right back on start sucking blood again.
So after a Capstar, dose you dog with Frontline. It is the best for killing fleas and lasts all month. It does cost in the vicinity of $10 per month, but its way cheaper than defleaing your entire house.
If you do have a flea problem, get a can of Knockout from your vet. It is a long acting surface treatment for killing fleas on floors and sofas and dog beds.

What I have found works best to kill the fleas on my dogs is White Rain shampoo and conditioner. I massage the shampoo into the dog's fur for a few minutes then rinse and do the same with the conditioner. It won't kill all the fleas the first time but it kills 90% of them.

It is Dawn dish soap and it needs to sit on the animal for at least ten minutes. Dawn is the soap that they use around the world when oil spills cover animals in muck and is safer than any flea product. And flea products are bad for your pets nervous system. Coat / nervous system. Hmm. (Seems like a no-brainer there.)

lemon scented dishwashing soap has more bubbles and dogs probably enjoy bubblebaths but it is not recommended.use a flea shampoo and take daily baths for your dog.if fleas persist, take 2-3 baths a day until fleas are gone.

I dont think it kill fleas. You shouldnt use dish soap on your pets. Its just not the best for their coat. Most flea shampoos arent the best for them either. Your best bet is a mild pet shampoo and flea treatment from your local vet.
