To sing to your children that is, or if you can remember, as a child.

My son has to hear : "Walkin Cane" ( redone by the Knitters, but the original I'm not so sure), "You are my sunshine" ( which has many variants, such as "you are my baby ducky") and "silver Wings" ( as redone by the Knitters again, Merle Haggard orginally) everynight before he goes to bed.

Sometimes "Space Oddity" by Bowie will do the trick too, as well "Walking after Midnight" by Patsy Cline.

And yes, my little one seems to like a lot of classic country music...but he also loves the Violent Femmes and the B52's. Go figure!

Mockingbird (hush little baby, don't say a word. . .)
That one about Molly Malone - where she's selling cockels and mussels

Those two seem to do the trick - when she was an infant, I would sing her "Banana Pancakes" by Jack Johnson

My daughters (ages 3 years and 21 months) both like "Hush, Little Baby" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."

My older daughter frequently asks for slow church songs like the "Our Father", "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman," or "Let There Be Peace on Earth."

My older daughter also likes to hear "Aiken Drum" at bedtime although it's not really a lullaby, and my younger daughter has started asking for "Ring Around the Rosie" when she's trying to fall asleep.

Both girls also like to hear poems or short, rhythmic stories (like Goodnight Moon) to help them fall asleep.

My daughter has always loved "Jesus Loves Me" and it always worked the best to get her to sleep. Second best was Twinkle, Twinkle.
