I bought some steamers (clams) last night and ate a few but was going to finish the rest tomorrow. They have been in the refridgerator all day, and will be until I fix them. I was just wondering if anyone knew how long they could stay refridgerated and remain okay to eat.

If you have kept them cold should be OK and if any have opened up a bit they may have died and may not be safe to eat. Tap the shell with the back of a spoon. If they close up as a result of responding to the tap they are alive if they don't they have probably died. Also, when you steam them and they don't open they may have died too. Now I have eaten them and been OK but be cautious.

Once the shells open, they are no good to eat and you will get very sick. I would just cook them and you can actually reheat them in hot water again and eat them and they're okay, I've done it before. YOu can get DEADLY sick from old shellfish. Real bad, don't mess around with this.
