If you want it to be a truly surprise wedding (and know that your gf would marry you today no questions asked and likes surprises), have all of your close friends and family show up at a secret location for a "party". Tell them to please be on time (say 6:15 for a 6:30 wedding) and to dress up. And then have your gf's sister or best friend be your accomplice. Have her pick out a dress and flowers and get her to come to the wedding. Then meet her in back and propose. Then tell her that you want to get married now, there is a dress in a side room and all of your friends and family are there. Then if she is cool with it, get married. If not, you can have an awesome engagement party and only you will know the truth.
Good Look!

Who is it a secret from? The guests or the bride?
I recently saw a show, I have no idea what it was, where the bride was coming in from out of town & the groom had planned the wedding with ALOT of help. The bride didn't mind some of the stuff, but she HATED her dress, though she looked really sexy & it hurt the groom's feelings.
I think a secret from the guests is cool, but not from the bride. Most women value their wedding too much even if it's just to the courthouse. They want it to be their choice.
You could plan all kinds of parties depending how formal/informal the wedding would be. I think, unless you run in those kinds of circles, pulling off a formal party would be more difficult.

You're girlfriend is very lucky!
I would guess about 40% of my business would be couples wanting to elope and they don't tell anyone about their marriage until they are ready to.
Usually this is due to one family not getting along with the other or the boyfriend wanting to surprise his girlfriend and he takes her to the courthouse to get their license then I'm contacted to make them "official".
Most of my couples are married on the beach, in a garden, a large fountain, their favorite restaurant, or where they first met. The possibility is endless just use your imagination and I'm sure you're dreams will come true.
Please make sure you know the weather during the season you would like to have your ceremony. The weather is either your best friend or it will try to make things rathe difficult for you.

What is a secret wedding? What, is this one in which the bride is going to have no idea you are marrying her?! Say what? And isn't the wedding supposed to be planned by the bride (generally)? At least consult the bride on this one.

Invite your family or friends over for a formal dinner party and surprise them with the wedding. Make sure you say 'formal' so they'll be dressed up for the pictures, that would be traditional. But if you're going for laid back say its a cookout.
