I breed canaries, and they have beautiful and melodic songs.

Sometimes even females sing as well.

Make sure you get a healthy bird, and make sure you take proper care of it.

There are only certain places in the home where they will be happy.

Under a flourescent light for anywhere from 12 to 15 hrs. a day (depending on time of year), will ensure a singing bird.

If it stops singing, it could have a problem that needs attention..

At this time of year, not many sing because they lose feathers.

Well, good luck when you decide to get one.

Everyone else has already told you part of what I will: you're going to want canaries. However, song canary selection is a little complex.

Canaries are bred for either song or color. The most popular, colorful canaries may sing tolerably enough, but if you research them carefully, you're likely to find a very drab, probably German canary, with a reputation for extrordinary musical talent.

I looked around a little to get you started, and I found a pretty informative article on canary classes: http://members.aol.com/PacificASC/artfcw11.htm
