I'm interested in this one girl who happens to be an ex of my boy. They broke up years ago and since parted ways, but I'm afraid it'll may cause tension with my friend if I pursued her.
Or is there some unwritten code that says not to date people your friends dated?

It's been years since they broke up and he has no intention of getting back together.
I don't want to ask him first because if it doesn't work out or no chemistry after a few dates, then no harm done. Right?
So the plan is to take her on a couples date first, see how things go, then asked the guy if it was okay.

yes... unless he gives you the go-ahead first. If he's a true friend and they are really "over" it shouldn't matter.

Lol, there always seems to be that question. But because it didnt work out with them doesn't necessarily mean it wont work for you. How he feels about his ex and how they parted also affects their view on it. But if they havent gotten over it after years then that is sad and ultimately its your life and your friend should be happy for you.
Go for it (But ask first/ just to get the ok sign so that your friend doesn't feel you went behind their back or didnt even think about them)

yea EVEN IF he gives you the okay... how would you feel if you were just dating her and u guys broke up and then another one of your friends goes ahead and goes out with her and you just said that it was okay to go out with her,so you wouldn't hurt your buddy, but you were lying and he still went with her?

you are suppose to know that rule... all i could say is to ask and see if its ok with him before persuing it further cause if you did it without he may think of you as grimey so ask him and make sure its cool and it wont hurt him or your friendship.

if i wanted to date my friends ex....id talk to my friend first and if they are ok with it then id go ahead....if u go ahead without talking first u risk losing your friend over someone that just may not work out.....good luck * smile*
