Hi,
You should definately visit Amsterdam,but you may also try and visit The Hague,Volendam or Maastricht. Im dutch and our capital is more than just to smoke marihuana and visit the red light district.(allthough you can combine these with other activities) Like there are pelnty museums,the canals are very nice and you can have boattrips on them,the houses next to the canals are more like little monuments and all of it is combined in a relaxed atmosphere.So you will see a lot of bikes,trams(so keep your eyes open when you cross a road).
Ooh and the best time to go there is in summer ( so lets say from May till September) as the Netherlands is a rainy country. On the 30th of April its Queen's Day and then there is a big streetmarket a lot of performances and everything is orange.
Unfortuately I cannot give you any hints of Hotspots there as i am not from that area at all.

Amsterdam is famous for its cannabis cafes, the canals are beautiful, the most well-known of the red-light districts is De Wallen, One of the most enjoyable things to do in Amsterdam is to simply sit in a coffee shop by the canal and watch the world go by.

Not really. I was there and it was cool the same way going to any large city is cool. I went to the Red Light district and it was cool. Looking back, i wish i had seen more of the history of the city. So much history and I wasted my time in strange bars. Funny then. Nothing to show for now and no one get impressed from someone else's tales anymore.

I've never been but my sister is there right now, I'll have to get back to you when she is back in the States. I think it would be, but I have major wander lust. I think it would be worth going most anywhere in the world.
