i have really curly hair and it's about past my armpits...it's not too hard to manage but i have ALOT of it too. so it gets pretty heavy once it gets long enough and it tends to give me head aches. I've thinned it out and it would help some but not enough i guess.

I really don't want a shortcut style with my curly hair but i don't know any really nice styles for curly hair besides the plain stlyes like long, short, or layered. If i were to get layers again i wouldn't know how to go about it because i wan't something different. I just have layers and that's it...not a "styled layer look" like some people have with straight or wavy hair. i really don't want to mess up my hair to where they need to chop most of it off and then i'm stuck with short hair.

I feel your pain girl. I have curly hair that i've had to learn to deal with.
Okay...first off, if your hair is naturally thick...don't thin it! It only grows in bigger and funkier. I've gotten it in layers before where it's short on the top hair, and longer on the back hair. This also works when you flat iron it.
If you can help it, try not to use a chemical relaxer...it'll only break off and dry your hair. If you can afford it, find a stylist that works with curly hair. I actually went to 5 or 6 places and had consultations and saw their portfolios before I even let them have my last name!
My hair is halfway down my back, andI can't wear it down for work. So after I wash it, I put some gel or mousse in it (i usually use pumpin curls if it's messy), and put it up in a mid ponytail...then I take the ponytail and pin it up with one of those claw thingees. It looks pretty cool when your hair dries.
Um...most of the time I blowdry and flat iron my hair. It makes it lighter on my head and it's easier to pull back also...I don't need as many tools.
Appreciate your hair girlfriend...don't get frustrated. Just let it hang the way it is. You see...when curly hair is messy it looks like you did it on purpose. Why do you think all those girls with straight hair keep putting all those darn perms in their hair??

Since you have curly hair i suggest you thin your hair out then get it chemically straightened so you can do more with your hair. If you want to keep your curly hair then i think you should thin it out anyway and try to part it differently and add a hairband for accessory.

Same problem here, what I did was to get a new hairstylist, I went to different ones and they did not understand what I wanted, but I found the right one in this super fancy salon, needless to say that it was expensive but he understood what I wanted and gave me a much needed diferent hairstyle and I don't need to straighten it to look nice, neither to have it cut short, so, I suggest you go and consult with different stylist to get the look you want, most reputable salons give you a free consultation.

Just try to part it to the side, it works with all hair stiles, but if your hair is really heavy it could cause head akes from to much wait on one side of your head
