There is a LOT of nitrogen in urine (dogs/cats). It kills the grass and plants too. Obviously dogs are much bigger than cats, so the damage is worse.
There are products you can buy to help alleviate the problem if your dog is confined to your yard or any other small area. You can find them at:
PetEdge: www.petedge.com/
or
Jeffers pet supply http://www.jefferspet.com/

A dogs urine is very acidic...so therefor it has alot of acid. If a dog pees in one spot on the grass for several times, then it will turn yellow and the grass will burn. But if a dog urinates on the grass in several different areas, it will do absolutely nothing to the grass!! I promice, Home that helps....Good Luck!!!!!

I'm not sure really, but my mom had a lilac bush that was dying and the dog "watered" it and it flourished. I'm not saying that it was the dog "watering" it, but it seemed to come back from a sad state after wards.
