In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of God plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.
Love and blessings

Could it be you hindering yourself. You are the creator of what you want in life.....
Not Satan or God. That is just a poor excuse for out taking responsibility for your own life.

Satan is the personification of evil. If something is evil, it isn't from God. If it is something like you don't get the promotion at your job, it could be God saying "Not right now... There is something better instead."

Satan only has the power to hinder you if you give it to him. God's just saying "Give it time".

Ask God.
He'll tell you.
He will let you know. It may be a feeling of "its just not right" but that's God.
Ask him that when he answers prayers to make his answers known to you. Like a lightbulb turning on in your head!
If you feel like Satan is hindering you:
ask God that if Satan is hindering you, that God bind this demon, and release all spiritual powers it has over you.
Remember, this is important: Satan (usually one of his minions) may have the legal grounds to be hindering you. And how did he get legal grounds?? Usually from a sin you committed. (Not that your a bad person, but we all sin!)
Sooo pray the prayer we are supposed to pray when we have sinned.
Say father I have sinned. I confess this with my mouth to you. Please forgive me for these sins and purify my body from all unrightousness.
There's always 3 steps: confess, ask for forgiveness and for him to purfiy you from it.
God bless! And remember certain words do certain things like a key they unlock things in the spiritual world.
For example, "Bind" when it comes to satan. Always say bind when you want to get rid of them. Ask him to bind them and remove them eternally from your presence.

Usually if its Satan, you feel as if you are under attack - whether physical or spiritual.
If it is God, you usually know it. Generally you feel as if you aren't under attack. You are given a certain peace about it.
I know these sound like church answers, but it has been this way in my experience.

Good question, Flora.
The answer lies in knowing the difference between God's voice (which comes through the Holy Spirit) and Satan's voice.
This may take years to develop, but if you have given your life to Jesus Christ he will bring it to pass eventually whereby you can discern the difference.
