Next time a christian tells you they'll pray for you, (particularly if they know you're not religous and don't believe as you do--) find a reason to tell them something like: "you poor dear, you live in a red state, < or insert here some other reason you deem their existence as pathetic or unjustified> I feel so bad for you--I'll sacrifice a chicken for you tonight, stick the feathers in my hair, and dance naked under the moonlight as I scream your name 999 times..."
(Which isn't a mockery at all, and very well could be the religious ritual practiced by SOMEONE of the 6 billion plus in lieu of praying for someone on this planet, so how dare you disrespect their religious freedom by deeming the aforementioned ceremony as evil, disrespectful or any other narrow minded adjective!!! Or are you the worldwide religious ceremony police!!???)

they might be telling you to let you know that they care enough about you to pray. If they are supporting you in anything that you do, they will pray for success in that situation.
Trust me, it is a good thing. You are lucky to have someone say that they are praying for you. If they take the interest and compassion enough to pray, they are asking for God's intervention in your situation.
Be thankful that you have those friends, I wish that I had more of them.

That's an excellent answer. You might refer them to the bible where Jesus tells us to pray in secret. Of course, I'm not sure exactly where that is in the bible, you'd have to look it up.
How many people are praying for you/us that we are completely unaware of? hmmm.....

I couldn't agree more. I try and make a concentrated effort to pray when someone says they need it.

Their reason(s) may be different, but to do it in word (say they will do it) and deed (actually do pray for you),(Col. 3:17).
