Never, unless there is a compelling reason to (rolls in human waste is a good one.) Shampooing their oils from their coat can lead to problems with their skin and hair. And don't listen to what the pet stores tell you, they have a vested interest in telling you it's okay to shampoo your dog regularly.

I bathe my outside dogs once a month before I put on their flea/tick preventative.
When I had inside dogs, they got a bath every week, or every two weeks max--that way if you found hair at least it's clean hair!
Just use a gentle shampoo like BioGuard or even baby shampoo works well.
For the record, I bathe my four indoor cats once a month too.

The More you shampoo a Dog the More he will smell as you are stripping the natural oils which protect and cleanse his skinand hair.

Unfortunatly, i have to bath ny dog once a week in medicated shampoo as he has terrible skin allergies in the summer, but in the winter he does not get bathed and he does not smell half as bad!

my other dog gets a bath if he has done somthing horrible like rolling in fox poo!
By the way, for all of you living in the countryside, to get the nasty smell of fox poo off your dog use tomatoe ketchup on the place after you have shampooed! the rinse off. yes i know its weird, but it does work!

It depends on your dog, his coat, etc. My dogs are greyhounds and they don't get a doggy smell, they don't like water, and they get bathed about twice a year. When I had long haired dogs and was showing them, they got bathed pretty often. But always with dog shampoo, conditioner, plus they got oil in their diet.

Don't shampoo any oftener than you need to because it does dry their skin and coat.

We bath our dog once a month, shes 11 now and still has a beautiful glossy coat, guess it depends on what your dog gets up to, if hes a muddy fella who loves rolling in puddles and the like I would say let him dry off and give him a really good brush, then maybe bath him every second week, if hes a clean sort of fella then maybe just once a month will be fine, good luck.

no more than every 15 days up to a month. The reason is taht the hair coat is protected by the sebaceous glands in the skin. It functions like a greasy lair that protects the skin surface and the hair from the bacteria and external conditions. If we reomve it very often, we take that protection away, so secondary dermatitis and foliculitis( inflamation and infection of the hair folicules) may develop.

I'd say at most once a quarter (i.e. 4 times a year) unless he smells bad or has been rolling in something. But as long as he doesn't smell and your vet doesn't suggest it, there's probably no need to worry.
