No. I see this question constantly. The technology of todays equipment and the time it takes to train people to use that equipment is too long to justify the expense.
In many countries, conscription range normally from 1 to 3 years. The jobs needed in todays military have a long training period.
For example.A EOD technician in the Navy takes 51 weeks to qualify. After that he gets deployed to Iraq for a year. Then he spends the rest of his time waiting to get out. And this is the best case scenario.
The negatives are that a typical draftee would not want that type of job.Would not spend the time training for that job.And would not want to be deployed for that long.
The country is better off getting a volunteer who want those jobs.So there will be no draft.

I haven't read your link, read elsewhere about 4 or 5 combat tours for some troops. Marine Reserves being called by for 2 years more of active duty. The draft is beginning to sound inevitable. We are not hearing enough about the strain on our military.

One more major military crisis concerning our National "Interests" -somewhere in the world over the next year or so- and a Draft will be in place by the time of the next General Election.

No. Over the last 4 Congressional Sessions Rep Rangel (D-NY) and Sen Hollings (D-SC) presented legislation to activate the draft to include women being drafted. At each submission of these bills to committee, they were either killed or remain in committee, effectively the same outcome.

I really hope not. My cousin and his best friend are both 19, and it will just crush me if they are drafted. If I lose them, I don't think I'll ever recover.
