Hope not to sound wishy-washy, but after all is said and done -- there is no "one best way"! The whole "one best way" propositions sounds enticing, but I think (from the other answers you've received) and, perhaps, from your own gut . . . you'll acknowledge that there's always "more than one way to skin a cat."

That's not to say that any way is as good as any other. In time, some will stand out as better (for you), and others will rescide into the background. But, the process is more personal & intuitive, not really lending itself to "hard evidence." Sorry, but that's life on Earth -- we're not robots, nor are we perfect, some of us are short, and some are skinny . . . I think you know where I'm going with this -- and that's how you begin to learn about life, it's a personal journey that includes the rest of us, but it begins and ends with you.

Talk to many people, especially elder people.
Everynight, before going to bed, think about your day and about the things you have gone through and learnt.
You can keep a diary.
Be open minded. Know that there are many aspects to all things and that most often we do not see all of them... try to understand, rather than criticize.
And live each and every second of your life knowing that the moment will never come again...

The ONLY way is to live it! You can get some insights however by asking questions, listening to others, and by just going off by yourself once in awhile to gather your thoughts and ponder your question with a smile, (don't forget that smile, ok? )

Read good classics (Hemingway, Thoreau, Melville, etc.), watch good movies, talk to older people, travel, try different things, be open to new things, question everything, make mistakes, and just live.
