Of course it's the USA, their language isn't forced upon us at all. We're supposed to be global here whether you like it or not. Not all of us are ignorant you know.

America is like your (immediate) family. The America 'family' has A Mother, Father, and two kids. If the parents speak only Spanish and the kids only Speak English then the parents would be forced to learn the language (i.e. Signs that have english and spanish written on them, press 1 for english...etc.) This is like our country. Most (not all) hispanics know spanish so they won't be able to understand the type of service they are getting (esp. almost all government services have a spanish option.) So, America has to translate everything now into Spanish so the hispanics can understand what they are doing. It's the same with religion. Since there is a majority of people who don't believe in God we can no longer say Christmas is Christmas. Now its the Winter Holiday.

Ya know what the second most commonly used language in the US is Spanish and not all of the immigrants are comfortable speaking English when it comes to all things so ya know what press the button and get over it My ex husband is from Mexico and he speaks great English but when it comes to dealing with somethings over the phone he would rather speak Spanish plus our 2 kids are being bi lingual and no one is forcing their language on you its not like you do not have a option to speak it this would be forcing it upon you

Ha ha, do you really want to pick up the phone and hear them
say "toucar uno para continuar in espanol?" Don't people like you get pissed off when you hear another language?
Seriously, though, I think they just say "press one to continue in english" so you will press it and then they know you have a touch tone phone and then they can make you listen to recordings and not a real person. It's a trick.
They used to say "press one if you have a touch tone phone" but nobody would press that because they wanted to talk to a real person, but now that they say "press one to continue in english" everyone presses it because it's an americans nightmare to have something not in english!
Oh yeah, and there are a lot more languages than English in the US. How can it be a free country if you're not free to speak the language of your choice?

No, it shouldn't. You are confusing official proceedings and documents with services a private, for profit company provides to its customers. If a cell providers has a large number of Spanish speaking customers then it only makes sense to have Spanish available to them on the phone menu. If the number of Germans living in the US were the same as the number of Hispanics then there would be a German option too. Just hit 1 and listen to your voice mail.

You are right (half-way) This is the USA and we speak Spanish and English. I think you are feeling intimidated because you know no Spanish. I suggest you learn some if you plan on living here in the USA. By the way I am an American citizen who speaks English and some Spanish and am planning on marrying my Spanish/English speaking fiancee. He will be living here in the USA and speaking Spanish whenever he feels like it.

i'm no longer a linguist or cognitive scientist, so those are in basic terms theories. I even have often questioned if languages that permit the introduction of compound words, which incorporate German, help you construct innovations greater as we communicate. some language are additionally exceedingly sparse as to the style you combine matters and verbs. case in point in French you may desire to declare "Je tu pose une question" which seems very effective while in comparison with the English shape "i'll ask you a question." different languages even have genders that we lack in English. i ponder whether audio equipment of those languages think of of particular gadgets as having genders while in English we in basic terms then to think of of inanimate gadgets as genderless issues. It appears like a created much greater questions. Oh nicely, it rather is a funky question to ask!

You are not forced to speak it! You have the "option" on the phone to hear messages in "your" language. That is not "force." Even tho this "aint" Mexico, if you haven't realized...there are AMERICAN citizens that only speak spanish. So what is "their language?"
