I take the chill off my dog's food in the microwave - not that uncommon.
And someone else said that microwaves cook food from the inside-out. Not true, it cooks from the outside-in.

I hate to see this, here are some things you can do. Make sure it's in a small enclosed area, with a blanket or bed. Leave a radio on so it doesn't feel so alone. Don't expect it to be potty trained at that age and don't try. It just isn't physically able. Make sure you get a parvo shot in it asap. It kills pups this young and you can bring it in the house on the bottom of your shoes. Make sure it has toys - not rubber or rawhide when you're not around - cloth and bones work best. Good luck

I don't have any personal experience with this, but I have been told that it is a bad idea to microwave puppy food. This, however, is just because it kills all the nutrients (like it does to human food). You aren't going to hurt your dog, but they won't get as many nutrients out of it. If you're low on cash and don't have a lot of food left, I'd do it. If you can spare it, though, I'd feed them fresh. :)
Also, remember that a microwave heats from the inside out. So if the food is warm to the touch (on the outside) the inside is burning hot. You do run the risk of seriously injuring your pet. So be really careful.

If it's been out for 6 or more hours, I would not use it again. I've had the same problem. Try feeding a little less at meal times and then you won't be wasting food. Be sure your puppy is eating at least twice a day, enough to satisfy him/her. Aren't puppies wonderful??? Have fun with your puppy.

It could get too hot! Add a little hot water and mix it up if it's been in the refrig. If it has been out for a while....throw it away and give fresh food. You may want to mix dry food with can food. Dry food keeps better and dry food is good for them. Keep the puppy happy! Don't forget to neuter or spay!

Not a good idea. The puppy would have gotten bacteria on the food that's left behind, and it will continue to grow until the next feeding time. Best to start fresh.

i didn't know you were supposed to heat it up. i just put a can cover and keep it in the fridge for no more than 1 day. i look at my dog like a child so if i wouldn't eat something that has been in a can in the fridge then my dog isn't going to. if i have leftovers i heat them up for my dog. like steak.

It's safe, but it's just like putting bread in the microwave --it makes the kibble all hard and chewy. Nasty!

you heat your dogs food? i think that is overdoing it a bit. I don't think dogs care if the food is heated. just put it in a container and give it to him later.

if it's within 24 hours of opening it and it's been refridgerated... it's ok.. otherwise it will have started growing mold because of the high water and meat by product content.
