1) Let them know YOU are boss. Do not be intimidated by their size. Do not physically correct them. If they do something undesirable such as jump up on you, step away and ignore their behavior, do not play or let them think you are playing along. Rotties are highly intelligent and respond well to positive reinforcement. Treats when they do well, ignore them when they do not. They need a lot of physical excersize and more importantly, human interaction. They get very attached to their people and cannot be left outside alone or on a chain all of the time or they go nuts. Also a good idea to take them to obedience classes and/or consult a trainer. I have two rotties and they are the sweetest dogs, and I am not a big person but they know I am in charge. If I do get mad at them I will use my voice to correct them, they can tell from your tone when you mean business and when you are playing.

Rottweilers are beautiful, smart, and tough dogs. They respect a firm hand. Otherwise they can be dangerous. So before training the first thing you must do is establish yourself as the boss, the leader. Once the dog accepts you as its boss, then the dog is easily trainable.
The best trainer I've ever seen is "The Dog Whisperer" on TV. He is so very good. And his techniques of how to be your dog's leader are so simple and logical. He shows us how to relate to dogs and how dogs want to relate to us. Plus the show is entertaining.
