A causeway is a low bridge on pillars over a long stretch of water with at least one raised area to allow boats to pass. Some of the are 7-10 miles in length

The Causeway is a concrete bridge elevated over Lake Pontchartrain on concrete pilings. It is over 23 miles long. The southbound lanes go bumpity, bumpity, bumpity......
The Causeway has two lanes traveling in each direction. Speeding is not advised, as it is strictly patrolled.

dons answer is correct, you have to pay $3.00 going south. and do not speed as the fine is higher. my son got a ticket 5 miles over limet and was a little over $200..plus going south at night you have to do 55mph daytime 65. going north at night you can still go 65 why i do not know. it is also the longest bridge in the world made like that.it is 24 miles.
