We treat pets better?

When pets are hopeless we put them to sleep. Don't we desirve the same? Especially when you feel hopeless.

i know if i was helpless i would want to be "put to sleep" no point in living if you cant do anything or have to be in constant pain to do it

Teenagers feel hopeless 6 days out of the week.
Frankly, the world would be a better place without some of them, but it's comparable to genocide -for hopeless and depressed people.

If you are referring to those who are terminally ill and unable to care for themselves, I would have to agree with you. If a person who is condemned to live a miserable life with no hope of recovery, then they should be given the option to end it all. If the person is unable to make such a decision, as was the case with Terry Schivo, then it is up to the family to make those difficult decisions. I don't know of anyone who would want to be kept alive but brain dead on life support for years on end, to me that seems incredibly cruel.
If the hopeless feeling you are referring to is merely depression, then suicide or assisted suicide is not really the answer. You always have that option of course, but the majority of those who attempt suicide regret it immediatly afterwards. Therefore it is wiser to find a different way to deal with your problems such as therapy or medications.
