Constipation even for adults is in some cases a sign of inappropriate feeding habits. It is advisable to avoid medications as much as possible..If you are changing from breast milk to formular give him 30ml- 59 ml of water for the first 2-3 weeks.Be sure to give th right amount of formular plus extra water. Water acts as a solvent and intake of adequate amount of water eases up the bowel movement.Add 22ml -44ml of strained prunes per day.If fruit juice do not help, add baby foods with high fiber content twice a day.High fiber baby foods include cooked dried beans, legumes, peaches, pears, plums and spinach.
Check up for associated symptoms like rectal bleeding or abdominal pain.

Make sure you are feeding him lots of "P" foods, plums, pears, peaches, prunes, stuff like that. Cut back on the dairy if you can. Give him more water to drink, warm baths help too. Then there is always the thermometer option, which I had to use on my daughter once when she hadn't gone in 5 days. Just put the thermometer gently up his bottom for a few seconds just to loosen things up a little. My daughter has always had constipation problems and I know it's hard to deal with a constipated baby. If you are really concerned, of course call your doctor.

Has your son always had this problem or did this just start?
If it's been going on for a long time, I'd make an appointment with you doctor to make sure he does not have a blockage of some kind. If this is once in awhile problem, try adding more fiber to his diet.
Like BABY PRUNES....APPLESAUCE.....and offer him lots of water to drink. Some children as well as adults suffer from having a normal bowel movement because of not drinking enough. Everything in their intestines hardens and does not pass through their bodies regularly. Best of luck with you sweet son!

Drinking lots of water will help, that's what the stools are lacking is water.I have given my kids glycerine supositories and they work wonders and don't cause cramping or stomach ache. You can go to any local drug store and buy them, this is what a doctor will prescribe for the child anyway, break one in half and use as directed. It will definately help and won't give your kid diarrhea either.Juice isn't as good as water,if your kid won't drink plain water then dilute the juce to half water and half juice.I promise, this is what will help your baby.Old people sware by karo corn syrup it's an old timer remedy, but it's sugary and it won't work as well or as fast as the supositories, and prune juice will definately be very bad for a baby!!It will cause severe diarrhea!!

applesauce, apple juice, a drop of Karo syrup in some water, prune juice, or prunes. Then if those don't help the doctor can give your son a laxative to help move his bowels. But after this from now on you should work more fruits and veggies into his diet.

Apple juice helps. Also try a teaspoon or more of Kayro syrup, it's usually found near the pancake syrup of the grocery store. Mix some into a bottle or cup, whatever he uses. Try this for 48-72 hours. You dont want to overdue it, but it worked with my little ones.

Prune juice was way to powerful for my son. It gave his bad stomach cramps. My grandma told me a teaspoon of Karo Syrup or an ounce of water with a teaspoon of sugar. Both my sister and I found this most effective on our children. All kiddos are different though. Good websites are www.babycenter.com or www.aap.org (american pediatrics website). Good luck...

Oh my gosh. this is sooo me... haha my daughter from the age of 1 until this day @ 18, has a problem with that. But when she was younger, the doctor suggested a tsp of mineral oil with her food. At least one or two meals a day. Today she is on her own. And make sure they drink plenty of water because the intestines need that to process bowel movements.
