Someone told me not to put my bridal bouquet in the refrigerator with food before the wedding. Is that true? If so do you have any sugestions on how to keep it cool and looking good before the ceremony?

There are 2 reasons your florist doesn't want your bouquet in the fridge.
The first reason is that the temperature in your fridge is not the same as what the cooler at the flower shop is set at. Your fridge at home is too cold for flower storage. You risk literally FREEZING your expensive bouquet. I have seen it happen too many times.
Secondly, fruits and veggies give off a gas called Ethylene. It is extremely damaging to certain cut flowers.
Please listen to your florist on this one, they just want your bouquet to be in top condition for your special day. Room temperature would be better for the flowers than your fridge. Just make sure they are properly hydrated.

The petals can pick up and hold onto any odors that might be lurking in your refrigerator. Also the temp in your fridge does not equal the same temp that was at your florist.

This is why I recommend to have a silk bouquet copy of your original for two reasons. One, you can have a spare just in case your real one is ruined. Two, you have flowers that will last a lifetime.

Put it in a cooler to keep it cold. If you put it with food in your fridge it can pick up smells from the fridge.

Who would want a bridal bouquet smelling like fish, or something else nasty from the fridge?

The bacteria in the food can ruin the flowers and the food. It is a lose-lose situation. I would see if you can pick it up that morning, or if you live in the north leave it in the garage overnight and get it before 6 am and put it in the basement. Both should be cool to keep it looking great.

No, you don't want to put it with food that can cause your flowers to smell like something they are not. You can however still put them in the frig. First you would want to wrap them in plastic, and then put them on a shelf away from strong smelling foods like onions. Put a box of baking powder in beside them as this will absorb any smells that are excapeing in your frig. Hope this helps and Congrats on your up coming wedding!

I say have it kept in a cooler at the flower place and then in an ice chest with nothing in it put your bouquet and ice.
