Firstly don't have those foods around you. If they are more difficult to get hold of the cravings won't be so strong. Also if you generally have a problem with portion control, take a small amount and DESTROY the rest (like flush it down the toilet or put washing up liquid on it). So when you have finished eating your controlled portion there is no more left for you to munch on.
Also make sure you are full and that you have drank alot of water and allowed yourself some treats.
Eat fruits if you have sweet cravings, and keep busy.
Lastly remind yourself how sexy you will be if you don't succumb to the craving and think how happy you will be (and how crap you will feel if you do succumb!).
Take time out and rationalise

Eat a healthy food. A small handful of nuts, a piece of fruit, left-over chicken. If nothing but that bad food sounds appetizing, grab a bottle of water and go for a walk!
Another good plan is to have a picture of you at your highest weight and a picture of you at your ideal weight, or sit down and write a 500 word essay about WHY you don't need that food. Chances are, you won't want to write it...that food isn't worth going through all that work!

Have just a little. Buy whatever it is in the smallest portion available to avoid eating a lot of it and to avoid having it around or having to throw it all away. If I try to deny myself that food completely, I will eat way too much of it when I get it. Think of it as a little treat for being good!

Wait one hour, if you still have it, then have a reasonable portion of the food. Then after this, plan when you will it next. This way you can avoid the craving, knowing that you have put it into your food plan

If the food is calling you, you may have to eat a little of it, just to satisfy your craving. I find that if I deprive myself of the forbidden food and eat other things, I still usually go back and eat that food that called me later on!! Make a deal with yourself that you are just going to eat a reasonable(small!) amount of the food and that you are going to be satisfied!!

What is a bad food?
Chocolate? Fast Food? Potato Crisps (Potato Chips for our US Friends).
Food appeals to taste and desire for many reasons. Currently, fats are "bad", carbohydrates are "good", but I remenber that starches were de trop not so long ago.
Eat bad foods. Not often.
Try the following as a regular diet.
Main meals - red meat once per week, white meat once per week, fish, once per week. For the other 4 main meals, try Asian vegetable cuisine (I recommend Punjabi and Bengal).
Breakfasts - Toast. Porage. Cereals.
Lunch - Wholemeal bread sandwich - cheese, cucumber, salad etc. Try to avoid too much mayo. If you have the facilities, a fried egg sandwich (fried in sunflower oil) will not do any harm.
A bit more on bad foods.
1 Treat any food that you do not prepare yourself from raw ingredients as suspect. Cook your own main meal, make your own sandwiches. Buy meat from a local independent butcher. Make your own sauces, such as Bolognese, rather than buying the stuff in jars.
2. Treat microwavable meals as suspect. They could be full of additives and chemicals.
3. Avoid regular consumption of fast foods. Burger and fries once per week, or fish and chips similarly, will not be much harm.
4. If you eat sensibly, especially if you cook your own food from raw ingredients, you will re-educate your palate towards "good" foods. Also, if your perception of "bad food" runs in the direction of hamburgers, you will be able to circumvent the bad aspects of such food by making your own burgers - use quality minced (ground) beef from an independent butcher, chopped fresh onion, not too much salt, and add ingredients such as garlic and cumin to taste.
Finally, remember that fats are necessary - they provide satiety in a meal. Carbohydrates are necessary - they provide energy. Meats, whilst they can be dispensed with, do provide amino acids that the human body cannot synthesise from vegetable protein. Vegetables are necessary, for vitamins and minerals. Cereals (bread) also form part of the balanced diet.
If you avoid prepared foods, and eat a balanced diet, cooked fresh as often a possible, you will lose your craving for "bad" foods. Then you will be able to enjoy them, as a pleasurable adjunct to an equally pleasant main diet.

Forget the diet and eat a little bit of everything. Quality of food counts but Quantity is the killer I think.
Slowly teach yourself to eat healthy food and a bit of 'sin' foods to keep you happy, but in small quantities....
After all....what's the point of being slim but miserable!!?? No one will like you anyway!

i normally go mad with a bit of cleaning/hovering to take my mind off it, the longer you can ignore the food craving the less the cravings will become, but it does take time sorry!!!
