I know the answers I'm probably going to get, so if I can state the most obvious one just to get it out of the way, I know that Jesus is seen as the Son of God and is called God's only begotten Son. But why say that then turn around and call all of us that are saved through the submission of baptism the Children of God? Is it implying that there's an inheritance difference like in the O.T. when the eldest child gets the biggest portion of the Father's fortune after he dies? And since this particular father will NEVER die, what is the difference other than the Bible saying that Jesus is his only begotten son or the Son of God with the spiffy capital "s"?

I must be missing something in the answers I've received. My question isn't trying to ask if we humans can transcend into God or take the place of Jesus, I think what I'm asking is, is if there is any real difference between "son" and "children" of God in the meaning other than Jesus is the Son of God and we are the children of God. Perhaps the two words were used to birth an idea of family which is one of our central points in Christainity, but I guess the terms are a bit confusing...at least when you're nit-picking like this question appears to do.

How about this: We are all children of our heavenly father. Jesus Christ is the first born of God. He is the only begotten because God let him die for our sins. And I think you are on to something with the inheritance part...Why would God are father not want us to have everything he has? He does, he loves us!

Because God created us humans, while he begat Christ.

In other words, God is our father in the sense that he made us, but he made us from dust. God is Christ's Father in the sense that he fathered him through a human woman. And no, since you're going to ask, God did not have sexual intercourse with Mary. ("It was a miracle," is the answer to your next question.)

Anyhow, if you already know the answer--that Christ was begotten while we were created--why ask the question?

The "point" you're asking for is this: When one creates, one is present in what one has created, but the creation is not part of the creator. The creator's flesh and blood, for example, don't go into the bridge he creates. But that same bridge engineer can have a child, and his flesh and blood will indeed go into that child. The bridge will be BY the bridge engineer, and the child will be OF the bridge engineer.

This is the distinction between Christ as the Son and us as the (lowercase-s) sons.

This isn't about inheritance. This is about godhood. We can never, ever be God, no matter what we do, how hard we try, and so forth. Jesus is PART OF God, on the other hand.

We are called "children of God" when we are saved because then God begins shaping us to conform more to the person of his Son. We enter into the body of Christ, and therefore we are now part of God.

How is this possible? It's a miracle.

"Son" and "children" mean the same. John 1:12 in The Holy Bible says: "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" Here "...son..." is used with a small "s" is also sometimes translated "...children..." of God. Sons with a small "s" are those who believe that the blood Jesus Christ shed at Calvary is the only way to have sins forgiven, removed and cleansed. Son of God spelled with a capital "S" means Jesus Christ the only true and living Son of God.

We all are sons and daughters of God, therefore, we are all Gods children. Jesus was the only begotten son of God, because He, as God's word, had to be born of a virgin. By that act, Jesus was God's son, because literally, He was father of the word. It is God's Word that was born of a woman. All other sons and daughters of God, that are human, were born of a man and a woman. (or created by God).
Jesus is simply the earthly name given to the Word of God. Human thought tells us that a person is not a separate entity of their own words. Your words ARE you, and God's word, IS God. We must be baptised to be born again, or born in a different way from average people.
Just as Jesus had to be born a different way.
The capital S means God Almighty, just like the small g means gods or godesses, statues, idols, etc... God specifically said to stay away from these, for God is the only living God, and the only one that can give you eternal life.
Jesus said I and the Father are one. Jesus is the Word of God made flesh. The word of God was around since the beginning, and is noted as walking through the garden of eden. Jesus is that same word of God. Jesus IS God. You don't read about God speaking to people while Jesus was on earth, because God's word was with Man. God knew that man needed to see another human to believe. They needed one to show them how to get back to paridise and eternal life, which is what He gave his other son, Adam and daughter Eve before their fall.
This is why between the 2 trees in the midst of the garden, the tree of eternal life was not off limits to them, because man already had it. He forbade them to eat from the tree of good and evil. They did anyway, and now the tree of life is blocked off. If they continued to have eternal life, and the knowledge of good and evil, they would be like God, who possesses these attributes. So when God said that on the day you do, you will surely die, Man did die in his day, and continues to do so. The only way for man to reclaim eternal life is to be born again. Jesus showed us the way by dying and rising again. Now, all we must do is believe in this. As you know, it is quite difficult to get this message to all of mankind, and religion only confuses them more, because there are so many different beliefs, and most are just made up and changed. But believe in the bible. The KJV is the most accurate summary you will find, the gugenheim is most like it, and follows the same string of events. Note the significance of small letters and capitols. And remember, that angels are sons of God too. Even the fallen ones. Yes even Lucifer. They were all created by God too.

Jesus is the Son of God. He was also God in the flesh or natural. We are all His children and if we give our hearts to Jesus we will all inherit the earth. :o)

We are all children of God.

Here's my take - I think it harkens back to when the Bible was translated to English in the early middle ages. During that time, it was common to "adopt" orphaned children into the family and refer to elders as "father/mother" and younger people as "son, my child", etc. It was particularly common in royalty from Rome forward to "adopt" nephews, etc. for inheritance purposes. Therefore, God has adopted us all as His children to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. At least that's how I see it.

Well, you've gotten a lot of answer so far. Most are exactly as bland as you believed they would be. Amazing how many Christians believe that a quick and dirty answer to get two points isn't considered greed. They aren't going to repent, they don't believe they were wrong, it's not in their heart... so they're going to hell, but they deny it.... Really funny that is to me.

To answer your question.

We are all bastard children.

We are of God's seed, but we were all born out of sin, and to undeserving parents. We still have to love our parents though... damned contradictions.
