Are there any shipping companies that allow passengers? I would like to visit Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Which is a land locked country, so I would have to take a ship to Brazil or Chile first and then go to Bolivia. I have the time, but not the desire to fly all the way there. Any suggestions?

Ok, if you go by road, which is very very dangerous because of accidents in the road and guerrillas, you could get to panama and then cross the channel by boat, and then arriving in colombia and going there to Bolivia, but it really is not a fun trip, too tiring and too dangerous. Remember, going through the mountains in the cordillera can get you really sick.

If you go by ship, that´s more interesting, you can land in chile or Brazil, and take the road from there, then you will see the changes of climates, altittude, jungle, etc. Santa Cruz is a really nice place.

From Chile, you can take a bus to La Paz, (eastern city of Bolivia) for about 20$ or less. Then from La Paz to Santa Cruz you can take another bus for about (10-15$)
Santa Cruz has a tropical weather during most of the year, but sometimes has "surazos" (cold winds from the south) that are cold as heck! Anyway, it's a nice, relaxed city with a lot of beautiful women. You'll have a great time with not much money!

yes most shipping companies do have spare cabins for passengers and yes they do have regular runs down that way.
you could also ask about working your passage (basicaly signing on as extra crew for free transport and meals)
ex navy guy and yes have taken people from uk to australia under the work passage deal as well as other runs it is done all the time.
you just need to get in touch with the port authority in the area you want to travel from and ask them.

hope this helps
