A) Is free will the right/ability to do whatever we want according to our own chosen morality?

....or....

B) Is free will a mind, that although is not bound, is free from the compulsions/urges that sometimes keep us that way?

...apparently free will involves the right not to choose A or B.

I'm not asking what free will IS. I'm saying what is it's PURPOSE.

Free will indeed involves the right not to choose "a" or "b", especially when the options aren't very clearly put. So here's a nice little quote from St Theophan the Recluse of Russia:

"The goal of human freedom is not freedom itself, nor is it in man, but in God."

In other words, the purpose of free will is to be able to aim ourselves towards God, that we might be lifted up to Him and realize the reason of our existence in eternal communion with Him.

Don't understand B) so I'll go with A) as long as you're not confusing morality and religion. Also I'd like to point out that the Sandy Beach Bum's answer is a load of twaddle and he should take a long walk off a short pier (.... a demonstration of my own free will in action, and I suppose of my slippery moral ethics too, but hey... I never claimed to be perfect!....)

Free will is a intelligent choice we have, given by our creator,
to choose between what we believe is - right or wrong!

In the question of the purpose of free will, I believe the answer
is in the original question A.

Free will is a right to make our own choices. The right to chose our path.

Your question implies that it has a purpose, or that there is an alternative to free will.

Free will gives us choice: to love the Lord and each other, or to deny Him and each other. Which shall you choose, my friend? :)
