I urge you to reconsider your purchase. Why not look into the 1974 Dodge Monaco sedan? I picked up a used Mount Prospect, Illinois police car which became the new Bluesmobile (I traded our old Bluesmobile, a Cadillac, for a Shure bullet mic for my harp) It had a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It had cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It was a model made before catalytic converters so it ran good on regular gas. The mileage was not great, but I assure you that if you keep her tuned up, this classic beauty will give you the horsepower that you deserve.

If you're seriously considering buying a classic car, then you might not want to worry about gas mileage. since the majority of cars made before 1970 averaged less then 10 miles per gallon. Depending on engine size and your driving habits, one could get 15-16 miles per gallon. I seriously considered purchasing a 1964 impala with a 258 that averaged about 15 mpg.

V# what? if it's V8 or V6 with small gas tank you be at the gas pump a lot.
If it's V$ no not really look at it's MPG(miles per gallon)
Also what condition is the brake pads tires and the exterior and interior?
These use up more gas than usally
More weight on car
Bad tires
No oil change within last 3-6 months or more
Exterior is breakign apart
Interior has uneven weight.

If I was getting a old school Impala the very last thing would be my concern for gas milage. A person gets those cars for one reason. Its to fix and turn them out. Buy because its old school. I cant believe you ask a question like that. Might as well buy a Hyundai if gas is an issue.

I have a 1964 Chevelle with a 283 V8, Powerglide transmission and 3.08 ratio rear axle. The best it will do is 19 mpg on the highway.

This is a very personal decision. I think the '61 Bubbletop is one of the coolest cars Chevy built in the '60s. There are minor differences but don't get all caught up in that. They restyled the cars often back then, but actual improvements were minimal if they existed at all. They're all OLD! They're all very cool. Enjoy yourself. I'd put 4 wheel disc brakes on if I were you!

I agree with Christiano, they are so cool, even up to the 1969, they are a work of art and the motor size and 4 barrel carb I had was not bad on gas at all.

Yes they swill it; as gas was only about 16 cents a gallon when they made these cars. If you want fuel economy and a Chevy, buy a Cobalt.
