Tattoo's are with you for LIFE, and if you notice life changes quickly and is never still.
Supposedly in the bible in the Old Testament a tattoo will keep you out of heaven- I don't know, I haven't read that verse.
I would strongly encourage you NOT to have a tattoo until you're about 26 or so- why? because your pesonality will keep on changing until you're that age.
Remember the girl you like today will probably turn into the woman you hate tomorrow

I think that it CAN be trashy if it's a really large one or is in a place that you display all the time. It's not so trashy if it's relatively small and on your stomach, shoulder, back, etc so that you can cover it up when you're at work or a snooty restaurant.
Also, beware of unsterilized needles. Hepatitis is definitely NOT hot.

P.S. It's pretty cool when instead of getting one of the tattoo designs they already have, you design one of your own that means something to you.

I do think it's trashy, usually. Also, think about how young you are, and how long you'll have to live with it. What tattoo would you have gotten 2 years ago? Whatever that is, would you still want it on your body today? 5 years from now. Also, as you age, and your skin sags, and the tattoo fades, they start to look really disgusting!

Think about it long & hard before you do it.
Think about what your career goals are - - and make sure to place a tattoo where it could be hidden if you have plans for a career in an office environment (like me).
I have 5 tattoos, each one is very personal to me, and I do not regret a single one. And all are in places that they can be covered by my business clothes and all are of 'tasteful' things that would not offend someone if they were seen - flowers, butterflies, etc.
You will be judged in the future if they are visible and it is painful and expensive to remove them should you regret them.
Also, if you do decide to get one, make sure it is with a reputable artist.

The whole world has a tattoo nowadays. If you want to do something unique I'd suggest something different. Look at how people dressed in the 60's, is that how you'd like to dress everyday? It's really such a fashion statement. Imagine if you had to wear the same outfit for the rest of your life.
I've also known some girls who were pretty damn hot, but they had tattoo's all over. It really.... It was skanky looking. You might not also know this, but tattoo's get faded and don't look as good after a long time. You have to get them touched up.
However if you want to get one, this is my suggestion, don't get one unless you find something that means something to you so much you'd be willing to defile your body and have it on you for the rest of your life.
I used to want a tattoo and said when I found something that meant that much to me I'd get one. Well, I wanted to get the Sacred Heart of Jesus tattoo'ed on my arm. Yet, I realized that was pointless. Jesus is in my heart, not on my arm.
Some people get the names of their wives or girl/boy-friends, but then they break up. Some people get the names of their kids.

I believe that small, reasonably hidden tattoos can be somewhat classy. If you pick a word or name or design that really means something to you, then by all means, get it tattooed on. However, when people get chinese symbols, birds, hearts, a boy/girlfriends name, or some other ridiculous design, then it is trashy, All arm, face, leg, and lower back tattoos generally look trashy in the American culture view of things.

I got my first one almost fifty years ago, I have never regreted it. I even have one on my penis. It gives the doctor something to talk about when he or she examines you. No kidding, the first thing they ask is didn't that hurt. they are doctors they must have some idea of what something feels like. My wife is 11 years younger than me and I love them on her. I think they are one of her best parts. I was in the Coast Guard, and every sailor had to have a tattoo. I have not gotten any within the last ten years. I think they look great on women.

A tattoo can be tasteful or trashy. Beautiful or ugly. Be sure what you get is located where you want people to see it or not see it. And use a reputable tattoo artist! You get what you pay for!

Its up to you. I like mine. I did a lot of research and background on artists and what I wanted. A tattoo should mean something to you not just be a pretty pic off the wall or from flash. Don't let other people tell you what to think. If you like them go for it just be smart about it.
