Liberals?

At first thought I knew that they would have to have been the religious fundamentalist fanatics. But no, they would be the Jewish priests and elders that were threatened by Jesus. Can you see Jerry Falwell embracing anyone declaring to be the Messiah? That's laughable. His very narrow minded point of view would definitely be threatened. No the Romans who sat idly by and let it happen, through no fault of their own, would probably be the atheists. Makes sense to me. This ,of course, is assuming that we can believe anything written in the bible is actually a fact. That is one huge assumption too. I realize that the atheists are not a country, I use them only as an example of a group who would not have considered Jesus as a Messiah. No insult intended guys!

The Romans were only relevant to the story of Christ because they were in political power at the time. It could be any strong political force in the world depending on the location.

The Jews are Gods people, so Jesus would still go to them. Perhaps Hezbollah could serve as the Romans. Like the Romans they occupy land that should belong to Israel, and they are a hated enemy. Hezbollah also would not want to have to mess with the Jewish Messiah.

Although the Liberal party provides an ideal scapegoat for the current administration I believe the conservatives would provide the finest example of the roman empire. As their close-minded, arrogant, and dogmatic beliefs would instantly and totally destroy any open-minded attempt at creating a new religion, belief structure or philosophy.

Examples of point Stem Cell Research, Gay Rights, and Muslim Religion.

Well, the Romans were the ones that had a set religion and were constantly at war. And today, Christians are the ones that have a set religion and have been constantly at war.

Jesus was the one that came in and said, love your neighbor, and war is not the answer. Now liberals are the ones saying love your neighbor and war is not the answer.

It would happen on American Idol. Simon Cowell would be the Romans, William Hung would be Jesus and Paula Abdul would play the role of Judas.

After Hung's "Crucifixion" on national television, he would rise from the "death" of obscurity and go on a national tour, sponsored by Budweiser. "The King of Beers Presents The King of Kings in the Second Coming World Tour!!!"

There would be the picture of christ, totally buffed and dressed in gansta threads with the tagline "I bring not peace but a sword."

He'd be the butt kicking christ. The one your Mama warned you about.

It's going to be awesome...

I think the question is, who would be the Pharisees. Jesus came to break down legalistic religion and provoke people into thinking for themselves about how to actually be followers of a god who commanded love for all others, and yet a religion has been built up in his name that is, in many cases, just as legalistic and hateful as the religion of the leaders he spoke against.
