Stress does raise the production of a certain hormone (which I can pronounce, but can't spell), HOWEVER, it isn't the actual culprit despite what that weird commercial says it is.

Fat in the abdomen is mostly produced by too much overeating and too little activity to counter it. Over time, it can build up and lead to all sorts of health problems--most notably diabetes and asthma--since the fat impacts on your lung capacity and function.

So the only way to counter that, is to reduce your caloric intake gradually, drink more water (NOT SODA--since it adds 15 pounds to your body every year), exercise and walk more (especially walk), and just start thinking more healthy. (But not EATING healthy--as in "turn yourself into a health nut by eating tofu and forgo the fudge rounds"-healthy--because many foods will still pile on the calories, no matter what you try to vary. The key is to reduce the amount of portions you have on your plate. Yes, this is hard to do, since we are now a "super-size me" nation.)

Ab crunches won't work because all they do is make your stomach muscles BIGGER and just ends up trapping all that fat underneath.

So if you can reduce and then eventially start on sit ups--which are better--then you won't have as much stomach fat to fight with.

But it takes time, so don't fret if the results you see aren't like the ones you see on TV and in magazines.

Yes. The theory is that this was once a desirable trait for humans. In the days of hunting and gathering, stress was primarily linked with the prospect of starvation. So increase in stress levels caused the body to store more fat against decreasing food supplies. Obviously today stress is usually caused by something other than a lack of food and most of us are nowhere near starving so it's no longer adaptive.

For the most part, though, where you store your fat depends on genetics. You cannot spot reduce, just burn more calories than you consume thereby reducing body fat overall.

Not in the way that the Relacore comercials would have you believe.
Stress usually causes people to eat more and that is what causes tummy fat. As with any fat, it cant form unless you are taking in more calories than you are using.
Eating healthy and proper exercise will keep that tummy trim.
I you have had children or need a little help in that area, situps or any exercise that will work your abs will help.

Yes and no. I have seen some people research this and they agree that yes stress is a big contributor to belly fat, which I tend to agree with. But research also says that exercise reduces stress, so why don't the people (me included) who are stressed out get on a treadmill or take a brisk walk to not only reduce the stress but cut down on the belly fat as well. Cool, I just gave myself an answer, thanks!

no i don't think so. Some people who are stressed actually lose weight. I think it depends on the individual and the way they handle stress period. Exercising etc. should be the way to handle stress.
Doctors used to think that ulcers were caused by stress and spicy foods. Now, we know that stress doesn’t cause ulcers―it just irritates them. Ulcers are actually caused by a bacterium (germ) called H. pylori. Researchers don’t yet know for sure how people get it. They think people might get it through food or water I just think you need to exercise or find some other way to deal with stress.

Stress causes people to eat more, eat less healthy, and not exercise. When you get stressed, go for a jog. It'll help you not carry excess baggage!
