There is no such thing as being over qualified for a job. Yes you may think you are over qualified but the AF dont think of it that way. You can pick what ever job you qualify for. The thing is the AF has to many people in right now so basically you are going to get what ever job the AF is hurting in. If you think you are good enough I know the AF is hurting for linguist and Spec Ops (CCT, PJs, TACP).

As far as quick ship this is what I did. You pick an open area. For instance I picked open general. You will ship to BMT with no AFSC and about your 2nd week in BMT you will be sent to talk to the career advisor. They will give you a list of all the jobs that they have open and you have to list I think either 5 or 8 jobs. The list they give you are the ones they actually need people in so the chances of you getting your first pick are pretty good. You will find out about week 3 what your job will be, sign your contract, finish BMT, and then ship off to that tech school. Its one of the easiest ways of getting into the AF now days because of the fact they are hurting in people and you are volunteering to take anything. As a matter of fact a lot of times they will have more options for you to pick from then your recruiter did. I know it was that way in my career.

I thought my job was pretty cool but because of the fact they shoved so many people into my career they became overmanned and they wouldnt let me reenlist so I ended up by crossing over to the Army and I think its the best move I could of ever made. Hope all goes well with your decision.

Most recruiters lock you into a career before you sign the paperwork. MEPS is just a processing center to check you medically, legally, psychologically, and then induct you into the military.
