As I get older, I look back at the events of the last ten years. I get the feeling that these happened only yesterday. But for a child, 10 years may be a lifetime. What could be the explanation of this?

I used to wonder about this and I think I figured it out. It works for me anyway.

When you are 5 years old 1 year is 20% of your total lifes experience. So it seems longer.

When you are 50 each year is only 1/50th of your lifes experience so it goes by pretty fast.

What do you think about my logic on this one?

Well im 16 and I think that when we are younger we want to be older because, at least this is how i feel, adults get a hell of a lot more respect than kids. Parents can't deny it. Whenever a kid goes to a store, there are employees (usually adults) that follow us (this has happened on many occasions to myself) and they make sure we don't steal anything, they DONT TRUST US. Do they not realize that they were teenagers at one time and know that just becasue adults ASSUME teens steal, most actually dont. And also when you are younger, who is there to impress? You don't really need to get on anyones good sides, don't need to make a great impression say at a huge retailer. Your a kid, your free, free from most responsibilties. You can go hang with your friends and just laze around, enjoy life. Adults seem to not understand that when they have kids, they still are aloud to go out and enjoy themselves. My adive is to dont get caught up in all the hustle and bustle of todays world. Take some time out of everyday to be a kid again. Go for a bikeride, call up an old friend, go to the movies. HAVE FUN

you're top, people some time past did marry at lots youthful a protracted time...the international became into additionally a lots different place... Having intercourse or marrying should not be in accordance with hormonal want...it is going to be whilst each physique is waiting and arranged to accomplish that...i've got yet to fulfill a 15 year previous who became into arranged to assist a relatives without help from their very own mom and father or the taxpayers... there are a number of stuff a individual may well be bodily able to doing...there are even issues that is criminal for somebody to do (which contain in some states/international locations, this is criminal for a teenager to have intercourse at age sixteen) yet that would not advise those issues are smart or healthful alternatives... in case you may no longer help your self and safeguard all of the flair subjects that could arise in a marriage or whilst having a newborn, then you definately shouldn't do it...the regulation prohibits it (till a definite age) because of the fact this is felt that infants might desire to be shielded from themselves and from making alternatives they are no longer probably mature adequate to totally comprehend or cope with...

I agree with Larry and Ginny, It makes sense if we see it Mathmaticlly.
Our perception relative to time changes as we
add on the years. Time of course is always moving at the same rate or speed, and doesnt go fast or slow, it just keeps going, it's relentless and of course consistent. My teen years also seemed to take an eternity to pass,I just turned 48 and mentally I am still 19.
I also question "time" since we more or less invented the counting of it at some point, we used math to measure an idea of time, but that also claims of a beginning if we measure it we must measure from a point. but that seems to me that time is only a reality or perception that works in a way for us, but doesnt explain or work out before the point or beginning for with time there is no beginning or end. When compared to the vastness of it "time" we exisit only for a split second and seems so irrelevent. wheras a little fly may only have hours or days or weeks on our time frame but does a fly see his life as an eternity?
at some point an awareness happened with the numbers 0 & 1 and from there we have rapidly evolved, before time was a number was it measured by space or seasons or moons?,
since time seems to fly by and it really does go fast, I realize just how little I have left, and how special a day is.
we only get one at a time, just one and thats it. This makes today very important since it may be my last, then time to become part of the food chain....yuck, my grandmother told me youth was wasted on the young, now i know what she meant.

you can prolong your existence merely by happiness.

As a child, one is oblivious of factors that bring real unhappiness and that's the reason time seems to be elongated.Even on trifle little enjoyable moment we would burst out with genuine peels of laughter.

As adults we find reasons not to stay happy and that results in a feeling of having shortened the life. Actually speaking, your life counts go leap frogging from good times to good times. Since as adults you stop enjoying minor pleasures of life so years also appear yesterdays.

And as some one wrote that 90% of our happiness is derived from smaller moments and only 10% is contributed by big events.
But sadly 90% of time we are chasing our dreams to get happiness from that 10% big events, neglecting en route those small moments which actually contribute 90% of happiness there by leaving one with unhappiness and dissatisfaction.

So get out, live and enjoy every small moment of happiness life throws at you rather than keeping your acknowledgements for happiness reserved only for big events when you will be able to get your dream car or house...

Enjoy the smile someone gives you on the way....
enjoy saying " I love you" to your close ones....
Do nice little gestures to others and enjoy the sign of pleasure on their faces...

And you will find that childhood has come back and your days are getting happily longer.

A young child or teen feels time goes slow because they are in a hurry to be older so they can do adult things then when we get older time does seem to go faster because we are usually busier but also realize what life is all about and want it to slow down so we can stay longer.
(At least that's my opinion)

I don't know...but at times it's very frustrating because I remember as a kid how summers just seemed to last a lifetime as eveyrthing fun did! Maybe it's because as we have gotten older, our concept of time changes? Heck if I know!

well i understand your point. if you are in the mid 30-40-50 you will feel the way you described but if you are 65+ then you will feel your old days longer and boring than young days and offcourse you will think about those good days everyday to kill time or over come your old boring time.

Because the time between the things we look forward to lessens. When you a kid you look forward to christmas, your birthday, and summer vaction. Now you look forward to 5 o'clock, Friday, and pay day.
