We are made in His image. He has a physical form, he doesn't have to "get into"a physical form. He assigns messengers as He continues to make the same patterns from the beginning of time. Out of the mouth of two or three witnesses the truth can be established and testified of. Think about it, if one person says, I saw God, isn't it more reputable if the person has more than one witness. God has many servants and they are privileged to serve God and be His mouthpiece. God even sent His only Begotten Son as a representative to teach us and show us the way of Heaven on earth, even Jesus Christ.

Because in spirit or invisible form he would not be able to teach. No humans would have accepted him as the god of salvation speaking and walking among the physical world of existence. Human beings will not think there is death since god was ever present and walking among them, until the rude awakening of realizing death themselves in which case all faith in god would be lost. If that was effective, god would have spoken to the human race directly instead of through messengers such as Moses, John and Jesus. Remember, god spoke to Moses in the form of a burning bush. To make his teaching more gullible and as an example a messenger is necessary to show the way to heaven after his physical death only. This messenger would have to be shown as actually accepted in heaven one way or another in order for this concept to work. Therefore, the spoken words and examples of living a moral and righteous live of the messengers are important issues for religious studies.
The same concepts applies with other religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, etc.

God is a spirit creature as is all the angels or called messengers.
Since humans can't see spirit creatures they either get in a form you can see or how could you talk to them?
