If you are, have you any other strange ways of information-processing, or the ability to discover multidimensinal patterns of any kind?

It turns out that everyone has synesthaesia to some degree.

I enjoy listening to the Reith lectures on Radio 4 each year and this was a particularly interesting one that covered synaesthesia amongst other things.

I'm synaesthetic to a degree - see names, months, days etc as colours. But not ambidextrous.

Is there a link, then?

my six year old son has a rare condition called joubert syndrome where he has no join between the small brain cerabellum (movement and co-ordination centre). he is highly intelligent but has had a real struggle to get his brain to re-wire and use his hands independantly from each other and walk..he has amazed all as he can walk independantly (bit unsteady) and is now a left hander. he loves music and his dancing is all consuming..but hates the hoover, its too soon to say, but, i can see this kid is going to keep amazing me with his strange skills.

yup - synaestethic...some music or sound has colors and - numbers do too. That however is fading, it was pretty strong when I was a teenager. Every number had a very distinct color. Sounds and music sometimes still are accompanied by colors. Sometimes even shapes, scenes (snow, forests)
